Jim and I became friends for several years post our MA graduations.  He had always been buddies with Joe Martin so I think at Joe's, and enjoying the late Alberta Martin's fine hospitality (and tolerance), we became acquainted. For a couple years we traded driving to CSM together, and also to Air Force Reserve meetings in Marin. Jim was a great spirit, with a surgeon's humor that could cut to the quick while making you laugh out loud at your own foibles. It came from some depth of understanding and heartache in his own life, and an acute sense of personal honesty. I always thought he would have made a great stand-up comic; one who could make you laugh at the truths that hurt... Jim eventually married (Sue) and moved to Marin. I believe he developed a cancer and left way too young.  I figure Joe maybe knows more of the details.  Jim Craft was a man of substance, whom I was fortunate to know.
