I remember Ernie from Little League baseball when I played during the 1950s. He was a pitcher - a southpaw - and he threw mainly curve balls. He could strike you out unless you had him "figured out", and it took a while to do just that. He was a slow thrower, and for that reason we called him "Grannie Phelps". R.I.P. John Parmele
