If anyone visits the campus of Young Harris College, Young Harris, GA, please stop by the patio area in front of the student center and see the memorial brick I dedicated to "Red". We were roommates during 1960-61. My "ego" brick is alongside his.  I fondly remember the many weekends we went home to Atlanta, over and through the North Georgia mountains, with "Red" at the wheel.  He was the world's greatest driver to get us home and back to campus safely. John O. Parmele, Jr.( YHC 1960-61 ).

His obituary reads (in part):  "Red" died August 21, 1999.  He graduated from North GA (Military) College (Dahlonega) in 1964, and was commissioned a 2nd LT in the U.S. Army.  He was a former Executive Officer of AAA Parking in Atlanta, and Past President of Model "A" Club of GA.  He is buried in Westview Cemetery (from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution).  I THANK YOU for your dedicated service to our country as a U.S. Army veteran.  R.I.P. (P.S. His brother, Ronnie, was in the NHS Class of 1961). John Parmele

Sometime during the mid-1990s, George White (from YHC '62) and I visited "Red" at his workplace, Sears at Cumberland Mall in Marietta (I think that's where it was).  He did not recognize us at first, but we had lunch together during his break and got to catch up on some wonderful times in the North Georgia mountains (we all ran around together, with Bobby Edwards NHS '60 and a few of George's friends) while at college.  I remember a funny thing "Red" told me about his Army service - that he was a Tank Commander but after his active duty was assigned to a medical unit in Texas for his reserve drills!  He thought that was the dumbest thing ever, and a waste of government resources (and I agree).  We all miss you and the "good times", "Red".  John
