Waunda Faye Mays was born in Austin, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mays, Sr., October 6, 1956. She attended the Austin Public Schools and was a graduate of Reagan High School. She taught summer school at Ridgetop Elementary School and also drove the school bus for A.I.S.D.

She was a family member of Sam's Bar-B-Que and worked there until her retirement in 2008.

Waunda united with St. James Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. E. M. Franklin. Prior to her death, she united with Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A. W. A. Mays.

She leaves to cherish her home going her mother Mrs. Erma Mays; father Dan Mays, Sr.; two sisters, Veronica and Karen Mays; three brothers, Dan Mays, Jr., Brian Mays, Sr., Willie Mays, Sr., all of Austin, Texas; special brother Howard Hawkins. She assisted in raising two of her nephews, Dan Christopher and Ivory Mays and other children in the community; a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and many, many friends.
