Dinah Lookabill Geiger

My family has 3 generations of Avon graduates. Our 4th generation is now attending. I taught 25 years for Avon Schools-3 yrs. in 2nd grade and 22yrs. in kindergarten.. I have a BS Degree from IU in Elementary Ed. and a Masters from IU in El. Ed. with endorsements in Early Childhood and Gifted and Talented Ed. Louie and I met at our church, Fairfield Friends Meeting and were married there Aug. 15th, 1971.
I am very active in my church, having served on a local, state, national, and international level. I have taught all ages in Sunday School and served on many committees, with my main focus being Outreach and Christian Ed. Through church I traveled twice to Kenya and several times to Jamaica. In Kenya I visited Turkana, Samburu, crossed the equator, safaried on the Serengeti Plain, visited the largest slum area in the world (where I was held up at gunpoint, but not injured), and spent my 50th Birthday in Nairobi. In Jamaica, I visited the Friends boys and girls homes. I worked with the children there and helped teach the girls to sew. In the States, I directed Bible Schools, helped with work camps, sports camps, and summer camp at Native American Friends centers in AL, IA, and OK. I have been a Boy Scout, Girl Scout, and Explorer Scout leader. I was Clerk of an international Quaker scholarship committee for 11 years and have served on an international Quaker women’s board.
In addition to all my church work I am a member of Hendricks County Retired Teachers and Indiana Retired Teachers, having received a state award in 2017 for most volunteer hours served in our HC group. After retiring from Avon in 2010, I have been very active in volunteer work. I worked for Beazer Homes as a model home hostess for 3 1/2 years. In 2021 we sold our home in HC. The rest of the family farm had been recently sold. That ended a legacy of 6 generations of our family living on some part of the farm. Since 2017 we have been living at our little lake house in Owen County near our kids and most grands. We love it here. On the Homeowners Association I have served as secretary for 3 years and president for 1 year. I am currently back on the board at serving as secretary again. I am on the Lake Maintenance Committee and I am in charge of the lake Hospitality, Neighbor to Neighbor, and Memorial Fund.. God is great and life is good. We love our family so much and are enjoying starting all over again with our great-grandchildren.
