Hi Classmates,

President John F. Kennedy's Assasination.

Fifty years!! I was working for Margaret Bruesch, secretary to Patricia Holt, as the office aide. One of the teachers came running through the office screaming that the President had been shot. No one knew what his condition was.  Everyone in the office ran to the teacher's lounge where they tried to crowd around a black and white TV. As the news broke, the teachers were sobbing and hugging one another repeating, "It can't be true!" The morning passing bell rang and I was told to go to class. I left in a fog. As I walked down the hall, I ran into a girl I knew, and told her what had happened. She said, "OK, what's the joke?" I remember thinking what's wrong with her head? I couldn't believe she would think there was any humor in what I had said. It was devastating that day. We were supposed to march in the Hollywood parade in two days. Life was supposed to continue as if nothing had happened? Seems like it was yesterday. Still hurts to remember. That moment in time.

PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY ASSASINATION:

Fifty years ago, on November 22, 1963, I was in Mr Adelini's class and had run an errand for him up to the Student Center.....Everyone was in tears as I got there....I made a b-line back to class and told Mr. Adelini what had happened....He tought I was kidding and called Mr. Gorrell to confirm....A chaos of tears errupted from the Class...On break I went up to the office and called my Mother....she had not heard so she turned on the TV to see the news.  She started crying on the phone....I remember how helpless I felt and for the first time in my life....very insecure....and scared.

I remember it well.  I was in Mrs. Claytor's english or drama class.  When we were told it was totally silent in the room for about 30 seconds.  Then the emotions started to emerge.  It was a scary time.

I was in Mr. Wolfe's class and Mr. Paul Simonian came down the walkway announcing the assassination.  We all wondered, what now?  I was anxiious to get home and see what was happening through the television news.  Then to see on live tv the shooting of Lee havey Oswald by Jack Ruby was quite disturbing, a live murder broadcast for all to see. Also now we would never know for certain the motivation.  Looking back, I was impressed by how orderly the change of office took place.  I guess I should have paid more attention in Mr. Wert's Civics Class.  We always wonder what how this event possibly changed the direction of our country.

Claude good to be in contact again. Received your comment on the assisanation. To parphrase Walter Conkrite;

It was a day unlike any other day.... I never realized until much later the Oswald murder by Ruby was the first Snuff film I ever saw. Saw one a little under a decade later but it was not live. S. Vitenamese General shooting a N Viet Cong in the side of the head on National news. I always thought that was the real turning point in the begining of the anti-war protest movement. I,ve heard of Snuff films but never was intrigued. I was in attendace at a mandatory every other year safety meeting conducted by MSHA one time in which they played a safety strip. One was a Bull dozer that got to far over the side and tumbled down a steep hill for about 1000 feett and ejected the operator from the units cage. The same day a film was played about electrocution with some guy trimming tree branches to near a power line. Dawned on me these two were both Snuff films used in a safety meeting. Well hopeto have more positive charming things to talk about at the Reunion. I believe you are the Treasurer? So you will see my check comming through soon.

I remember I was in the Cafeteria starting to eat lunch before I would go to the Canteen to sell lunch items.  Sharon LaRoache had a transiter on and came in shouting they killed him, they kill him.  After she sat down, the annouce was made that President Kennedy, had been shot in Dallas, Texas.  He died at noon their time.
Your classes are cancelled until after the funnel.

That had to be the worest time, everyone was walking around in a daze for our leader had been killed.  Well I just want to say that we have change a lot some good, some very bad, but that November 22,1963, will never be forgotten by us who live through that era of time.

Thank you Linda for letting us know about the death of yet another classmate. It was sad to read about Cecey Dickson passing in 2002. I remember that we missed her at the 50th reunion and we asked everyone who we thought hung out with her if they knew anything about her. Mimi Hoting and she were inseparable at BPHS so Diane Pinnick and I went to the center of the room where we all had dinner and where Mimi was talking to people. More and more people kept coming up talking to Mimi and us, so we never got a chance to talk to Mimi.

We thought it strange that Cecey was not there because she was so involved with everything at BPHS--the band and student government, etc., so we didn't think that she was one who had a really bad time in HS and never wanted to see anyone from there again. Several people we know felt like that, and it is really sad because all our classmates have really precious memories for us.

Cecey was so smart and so was her brother, Craig. Craig was in our advanced Algebra class and we all shared our homework answers to see if everyone got the same answers before class started. We all helped each other learn and get past the really tough homework.

Sorry to see that you passed so young, Cecey, but rest in peace. Mary Ann McNeill Michalsky
