Don Schenck passed away on April 15, 2018. He had been in poor health for many years so it was a blessing. He went peacefully while watching TV.
He was retired from his business of restoring and painting cars. He and his wife, Joyce, of 28 years lived in Lucerne Valley, CA. He had a son, Kirk from a previous marriage and a stepson, Paul.
He served in the Army right out of High School and served in Vietnam as did many of our classmates.
Don was my childhood next door neighbor. I moved next door to him on the day of his 3rd birthday, We shared many good times and lots of laughs through our years in BP. We attended school together and played childhood games together along with all the others on the block. We grew up in a good time and had lots of fun. Thru the years we have kept in touch and he even came with his wife Joyce to visit while I lived in Las Vegas and we talked about old times.
Don hasn't been in good health for several years and with our declining years his health has also declined. As much as he will be missed, his passing is a blessing . Rest in Peace my friend and as we've always said to one another, the porch light will be on.
I will always treasure Don. He was a great pal growing up in Baldwin Park. Don was the first guy I rode around in a car with and had the freedom you experience. He was lucky to have a car and that made him real popular. He lived real close to me growing up. We used to go to Landis and goof around and we played baseball, too. We along with Ken Jennings we would go places and do what boys do. When I got out of the Navy, Don got out of the Army a week later and he came to my wedding. I called his mother and she remembered me right away. After moving to Blythe I did not see him. As many say, I wish I had taken time to stay in contact. I will miss him like crazy. Great memories to remember.
I agree with Mike, Don was a great pal growing up in Baldwin Park. Lived real close to me growing up. Yes, we used to go to Landis and goof around, played baseball, and basketball. I must admit, when we all graduated from BPHS I lost contact. We had a lot of great moments, I have a lot of great memories of Don.
