Susan Parslow

Patty was a lifelong friend and I miss her daily!

She was an amazing woman; brilliant and beautiful! She completed her college degree in 3 years, her masters in 2 years and eventually a PhD in psychology. She taught English at San Clemente High School and practiced as a psychologist on the side. Following retirement she planned to work as a Psychologist.

Shortly after our 30 year reunion Patty got sick and was diagnosed with an aggresive lymphoma. After 9 months of chemotherapy she developed an astrocytoma (brain tumor) completely unrelated to her lymphoma. It was the most difficult time for her, really, so very awful, yet she remained positive until the end.

Patty has one daughter, another brilliant woman, who is an attorney, and lives in Seattle with her husband and 2 daughters. Patty never got to meet her granddaughters, unfortunately.

Dear Susan Parslow,

Thank you for giving us information about Patty. You are correct, she was a beautiful woman. I was so shocked to see that she was listed in the In Memory section and asked several people if they knew what had happened to Patty. I ran into her at UCLA shortly after high school, where she was taking some pre-med classes and I was taking a few writing classes. She was bright, happy and as lovely as ever. We chatted for a little while in the Student Union. She left high school early, and now you say she completed college early, so it is as if she knew something was going to happen to her and she was speeding up life. Mary Ann McNeill

Thank you, Susan, for posting the information on this wonderful friend.  She was one of the nicest people I ever knew, treated everyone with courtesy and respect, without exception.  I asked the people I had contact with through the years what she had done after high school, but none of them knew.  I was stunned when I heard several years ago of her passing, and now I know what happened.  Now my tears each time I look at her picture aren't tears of "what happened," but maybe will always be "why Patty?"

Susan,

Thanks so much for the info on Patty.  I was so sorry to hear of her passing and all I knew was that she had died, way too young, of cancer.  She was so successful and bright and a good person.  What a great loss for all of us.  Diane Beecher (Pinnick)

Thanks Susan, Patty always stood out as a leader and was always dressed and manicured for success. I don't ever remember a "bad hair day" for Patty.   Her aire was determined and on a mission that not many accomplish in such a short time.  If there is anything I remember about our classmates, it is their voices.  I can still picture her smile and hear her laugh.  I so admired her stamina and drive for everything she accomplished. She was a "Classy Lady" on a mission that was deterred by a horiffic disease.  There are so many aspects of life that I still have a hard time comprehending....a shining star taken too soon.
