To all SMU alumni scattered throughout the world, who are not yet decided or committed to come and attend the SMUAA 2009 Grand Reunion...........

Isn't Toronto exciting enough for you? Oh, come on, Toronto has the best of everything. Your presence will grace the reunion and tour the city, then roam around Niagara Falls, dazzling under the blazing sun in summer; the Canada Wonderland, really an amazing man-made wonderful and exciting place where you can forget your worries;oh, the buck stops here, otherwise if I tell you more exciting places, you'll not believe me, though incredible but true.

So Marians register now before it'll be too late! We're all waiting for you and we'll dance through the night for 2 fun-loaded nights, July 30 - Aug. 1st.2010.

Your friend, or shall I say, Tata Pedring (Fabroa)

It's often said that no one is perfect. Here's
Pedro Fabroa, who commented previously inviting SMU alumni around the world to attend the SMUA 2009 Grand Reunion, and spend three nights of excitement and fun,on July 31st, Aug. 1st and 2nd/09. Here he goffed about the dates.... SMUA 2009 should be 2010... 2nd/09 should be 2nd/10. Pls change the dates to the right ones and I apologize for my mistake.

Hello Mr. Pedring, you are too funny when you said;"For those of you still alive". I laughed till I wet my pants. Did you really expect the DEAD to respond to your call for attendance? I thought that was so hilarious. Anyway, my 3 other siblings here in Florida , all products of SMC/SMU are finalizing the logistics of our attendance to the reunion. My batchmate, Dr. Jaime Venturina from Bayombong had encouraged me to attend and he will be attending as well. I have send in my advertisement and humble donation to SMUAAT but have not officially registered. I have a week of business travel to Atlanta next week, so I will be able to register upon my return. I enjoyed browsing through this website and whoever are the authors, my kudos to all of you, job well done specially the line dancing lessons...just loved it. Thanks for sharing. I feel like relocating to Toronto after 34 years here in Florida. Who knows, it may happen... Edna Aquino Reyes

Dear Edna (Aquino-Reyes)
Oh, poor dear, you better hurry up and change your pants! I don't want you to remain wet all the time! You know, God works in mysterious ways, He even resurrects people from the dead! So, what's so funny when I said, "Those of you who are still alive?" I wasn't speaking to the dead, but to those who are still alive.
Okey, so you've advertized and that's good for the reunion souvenir program. If you can see the draft, even as it is, it's already beautiful, how much more in final form? That's all the creation of our SMUAAT President, Wilfred P. Fabroa & Co. But have you registered now? Better do it fast. The days are fleeting by and for all we know the reunion will be at the door.
If you decide to reside in Toronto someday, you're most welcome to the land of snow. But we envy you living in the Sunshine State! We've been there a couple of times and oh, how we wish to live there. But here you are wanting to stay in the cold, cold weather (not heart). But if it is your wish, so be it. See you asap.
Yours sincerely, Tata Pedring Fabroa

To All Marians around the world, Greetings!
Are you still sleeping? Wake up and hurry to register for the 2010 SMUAA Grand Reunion! Time is running fast and as I see in the roster, not even half of the expected attendees are registered. The Chelsea Hotel, the venue of the affair, is being readied and waiting for more registrants to fill up the required quota. But it may not take long, then for all we know, it'll be filled to capacity and no room in the inn for the late-comers. So hurry up, co-Marians, come one, come all to Toronto. The snow is now melting, soon the winter will be gone, Spring will spring up, then Summer will be here and Happy Days will be here again for the grand reunion!
There are so many exciting and beautiful places to feast your eyes on! To mention just a few: The wonderful Wonderland, a man-made amazing feat of human effort and ingenuity; the CN Tower on top of which is the highest revolving restaurant in the world! The Niagara Falls, Mother Nature's own creation which can never be duplicated by any man! Then you go roaming around the CNE at you heart's content and fill your growling stomach with the best food you'll ever find in all the world!
So, fellow Marians, do come and experience all these exciting and tantalizing creations of man and Mother Nature which we are fortunate to have all around us here in Ontario!
All of us in SMUAAT are here with open arms and warm hearts to welcome you!.
Your Tata Pedring Fabroa

Virgilio Jr. Aguilar

Hi, everyone!  I'm Virgilio Aguilar, Jr., simply Leo to most of my friends, and living here in the Twin Cities, Minnesota.  Sorry for the delayed response to all the invitations for me to update my profile in here.  I finally did today!   Guess I was just waiting to get over this stressful task of filing my taxes, then I could give this a lot more attention afterwards.  Actually, it took me a couple of hours to finish it, then later celebrated a tax refund by going out to watch a theater play.  I called my parents (former Vice President Virgilio Sr. and Kathy Monje-Aguilar) while I waited for the show and my Mom frantically prodded me to get going with my registration and updating my profile.  I didn't wanna upset my beloved Mom, who has really been looking forward to this occasion, so I promised her I would. So here I am haha!

The Aguilar family has been looking forward to the SMU Grand Reunion and celebrating it with our wonderful fellow-alumni, friends and relatives in the great city of Toronto.  My family visited this gentler, kinder nation almost a dozen times in the past, and we have always tremendously enjoyed the hospitality and beauty of the Canadian folks.  We expect that this much anticipated occasion will be no different and will bring about a lot of unforgettable, heartwarming memories.  The reunion in Las Vegas gave us a taste of what it felt to be among our fellow Vizcayanos and fellow Marians.  Being around familiar faces and rediscovering long lost friends and neighbors and colleagues gave us great pleasure and joy that money could not buy.  It's like entering an old home that you once lived in... every corner and every wall brought about great memories of the times that have gone by. Everyone has great stories to tell about the past. Bitter, sweet, painful, joyful. These are timeless sentiments, thoughts and emotions that overwhelm and enrich our souls,  and we would like to experience them again and again.  Which is why we plan to come back and be part of this great celebration of the Filipino community, to affirm our unity and kinship under the binding force of our common culture and allegiance to our alma mater.

Kudos to the organizers of the events/programs!  I can see how dedicated and perseverant you have all been in trying to put this together.  Canada showed to the world their capability to host and welcome the world with pageantry and grandeur during the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.   Our Canadian hosts and organizers have so far demonstrated the commitment and artistry in making this Grand Reunion a success.  They might as well have already won a gold medal for all their impressive efforts so far.

I have been invited to co-host one of the programs, and I heartily agreed to do it.  I and the rest of my family are all counting down the days to seeing you all there in our reunion, which will be nothing less than a colorful and joyful festival that will showcase our Filipino culture and affirm the Marian spirit!

So to all my cherished relatives, friends, colleagues... here's wishing you all the best.  See you soon in Toronto!!!

Hello out there! It's nice to read and be reminded of our once upon atime together in SMUHS.Oh how I love those happy gone-by days!I was there 1974-1996 then was transfered to the college to present. Aside from teaching biology & history ( as usual)part time staff ako sa Alumni since last year.I have a new boss, si Alice Jubay and we're trying to organize the office. Please be informed that the Balai na Alumni is still owned by our dear SMU Alumni and still gives the same benefits to our alumni when you come home.It is only used as a Practice Laboratory for our HTM-HRM students as a requirement for PAASCU Accreditation.
Well anyway, I'm so overwhelmed to read messages and see pictures of my former students 36 years ago(tagal na pala!)Sana dito rin! When you come home please visit our alumni office too I hope magkikita pa rin tayo before I retire(sixty 2na me).
Once again Congratulations!Regards I... LOVE you all! Mabuhay ang SMU!!!

Dear everyone, I thought I would like to take a moment to say thank you to all of you who made it possible for us to have the most wonderful time at the SMU reunion. It was a journey to our childhood and our youth. The conversations and the jokes, connected us to a past we all shared and treasure still until perhaps senility takes over. You did the utmost to bring us togetherness and laughter that brings a smile with every flashback.  I treasure the moment I shared with each one, in conversation, in dancing, and in appreciation of all that was happening.

 Thank you.

To everyone,

Applause!! Applause!! to all Toronto SMU Reunion organizers. You all worked so hard on it. Really, great party, from start to finish. Every smallest detail was carefully planned.

Most of all thank you for bringing back old friends, classmates, teachers, and even my parents classmates.  Lifetime memories of our old school yard has touched me so much. I miss those years.

I hope we can keep this website forever, or similar website to reconnect with everyone. I don't mind paying a membership fee for it's maintenance.

Again, thank you for a great reunion.

Delano Europa

From Delano Europa

It's not all over till the fat lady sings, as the saying goes.(time to scoot away  free even when the program was still in progress.) But as it turned out, even if the fat lady sang to her heart's content, everybody stayed put to find joy and pleasure in her singing.

Thank you all for your kind and enthusiastic participation. As I look back at our having  been  together, I cannot but still feel mesmerized and awed at your wonderful, enlivening, electric presence. Your having been there lit the whole house, as if it were on fire. As a great poet sang(Michael Jackson) your were all born to amuse, inspire and delight.

The embers are still burning as of press time..and we expect to enshrine these in  one of the secure corners of our hearts because even when the heat  finally dissipates,  memory replicates every movement, word, fun that we had.  That's what you and I  all did  and more during our reunion.  You set the dynamics of the reunion train and saw to it that it was not derailed.

Whatever omissions you entertain in your minds, imagined or real,  that we were guilty of we apologize. Be yours to put it back on track. Everyone was able to board the train, and we didn't miss it, did we? Our seeming herculean efforts in putting together a mosaic of  fun, laughter, festivity, oneness, bonding, and for some, by chance or design, whatever, encountering past crushes and loves,(some say "do not resuscitate)  dying friendships revived, recriminations fading as the interaction resurrected old positive  feelings, present in the prism  of unity, seem to pale in comparison.

Dios ti agngina kadacayo amin. Dios iti kumuyog.

Hi there, have a question.  Since the reunion was held in the Philippines are we going to continue having reunions here in the US or Canada?  Some friends told me  that the reunion will soon be obsolete.  I pray that the reunions will continue and that it's a good way to see Kababayans

10/05/14 02:08 AM #19

Romeo Baliton

The SMU alumni abroad members who attended the 10th Biennial Reunion in SMU, Philippines last August 1-2-3, 2014 decided to hold its 11th Biennial Reunion in San Francisco USA in 2016.

The invitation to hold the SMU Alumni Abroad 10th Biennial Reunion in the Philippines was done to coincide with the 80th Founding Anniversary of Saint Mary's University High School this year (2014) so that both local and foreign alumni associations can jointly celebrate the founding anniversary of the High School Department of SMU, our Alma Mater.

Reunions will never become obsolete, In fact, as the years roll by, and as alumni members become separated by time, distance and circumstance, the desire to hold reunions becomes stronger as an instrument of renewing friendships, a venue for camaraderie and celebrations, and as an opportunity to plan and execute worthwhile projects that will serve the good of its members and its Alma Mater.

Though I am based in Baguio City, Philippines, I am looking forward to see our foreign counterparts in San Francisco, USA come 2016.

I want to take this opportunity to convey, on behalf of SMU High School Class of 64 (the 2014 Golden Jubilarian Class), its Golden Jubilee Greetings to all, and to thank all who in one way or another helped us make our Golden Jubilee a memorable one.

Till then,

Romy Baliton (SMC High School Class of '64)

Thanks for the response and info on my question.  We are looking forward to 2016 to see familar faces and enjoy the camaraderie of our kababayans.  If I may, could you please encourage our classmate Dr. Gerardo Cabreros to join us in San Francisco.  God willing will see you all in Frisco.

Manong Gerry and I were attendees of the SMU Alumni Abroad 8th Biennial Reunion in Toronto. I also attended the 9th Biennial Reunion in San Diego but Manong Gerry  did not join us there for reasons known only to him. Did I by chance meet you in San Diego?

Manong Gerry and I were together again in Bayombong last August 1-2-3 for the 80th Founding Anniversary of SMU High School, Alumni Abroad 10th Biennial Reunion and SMU General Alumni Homecoming which was also our High School Class 64 Golden Jubilee.

Anyway, when I see him I will advise him of our exchange of info and discussion of the SMU Alumni Abroad 11th  Biennial in 2016 in San Francisco, USA.

Till then,

Romy Baliton (SMU HI Batch 64)

Teresita Dela Cruz (Dela Cruz)

I'm sorry we didn't get the chance to meet you in San Diego.  We were with our batchmates '59 on one side.  So many things were going on that we really didn't get the chance to say hello to a lot of kababayans.  Some of our batchmates are from San Francisco and were surprised to know that the next venue is San Francisco, however we are glad because there's still a lot to see in the Frisco Area.  Would it be okay to know who accepted the next reunion for 2016?

10/15/14 08:28 AM #23

Romeo Baliton

I did not have the chance to know who among the SMU Foreign based alumni group chose San Francisco as the next venue for the 11th SMU Alumni Abroad Reunion; buit I heard it announced by one of the officers of the 2014 Jubilee Celebrations over the podium and on the public address system. Anyway, very soon there will be subsequent announcements on the matter by the concerned SMU alumni Groups (both local and foreign).

Till then,

RQBaliton
