Carlmont High School is somewhat different from most other schools simply because it's "feeder schools" come from two different cities: Belmont and San Carlos. Consequently, when we were freshmen, it took time for us to get to know each other. The first day of school, I met Jim Winslow in P.E. class. Jim was easy to talk to. He was funny and he was a nice guy. He seemed to understand that making friends was a good idea. I really enjoyed having P.E. with Jim, but unfortunately, our friendship was cut short when Jim's family moved to San Mateo after our freshman year.
Before our 50th reunion, I phoned Joyce Ertola, who was chairperson of our Reunion Committee, to enquire about starting a class website. Joyce told me that if we wanted to have such a website, I should contact Jim Winslow, for he knew a great deal about Belmont and he was a Carlmont High School history buff. I phoned Jim's house and a woman answered whose voice was very familiar to me. It turned out that Jim had married Leslie Sarle, which I might add, was a good move on his part. After talking with Jim, I realized he hadn't changed much. He still had his sense of humor and he was contributing to a reunion from a high school he didn't even graduate from. Jim told me he had been a San Mateo policeman for a number of years and after retirement he owned a wildlife management company. I commented, "There must be a link there". And he laughed and said, "Animal management is much easier, for animals don't usually hire lawyers". During preparation for our 50th reunion, Jim and I talked on the phone numerous times. He was always a wonderful resource and went out of his way to help me. I mentioned to him one time that I had lost my senior yearbook and on the night of the reunion he gave me a 1961 Carlmont yearbook that he had purchased. This is just one example of the thoughtful person Jim was. I was saddened to hear of Jim's passing. We all send Leslie and her family our deepest sympathies. Jim was a great guy and he will surely be missed.
Thank you Richard for your kind words and memories of Jim. Jim was a wonderful husband, father to Brad and his wife Saralyn, grandfather to Malik and Myles, and stepfather to my children Matt and Colette. He will always be loved and is sorely missed by us all.
Jim passed away on April 18, 2021 after a lenthly illness. He was in and out of the hospital and numerous skilled nursing facilities. Due to Covid-19, it was particularly difficult for him, me, and our family, as he couldn't have any visitors. Our only options were phone and text. Very Sad!
Jim and I would have been married for 30 years in October. But, this was not our first marriage. When we were freshmen at Carlmont we went "steady" and I invited him to the Sadie Hawkins Dance. While there we were married by Judge Joe Zucca. That marriage lasted only a few weeks. When we reunited shortly before our 25th Class Reunion, I showed him a box of my mememtos which included our "marriage certificate" and a funny valentine he gave.me. We laughed heartily. Our true marriage was filled with love, warmth, humor and respect.
I would like to thank all those classmates for sending their condolences, cards, FB messages, phone calls and emails. All your kind words mean a lot to me during this very sad, lonely, and difficult time. May Jim rest in peace.
So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I did not know Jim well but knew he was a good guy. Wishing you all the best in the years to come for you and your family.

I have nothing to add that Richard Eptine did not just say. Thank you Richard.
