John J. Strnad Jr.    
John J. Strnad Jr., Age 38, of Berwyn, a true fighter, finally succumbed Saturday November 15, 2008 to the brain cancer he had bravely fought since 2003. John graduated from Morton West High School, Class of 1988. John then attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where he was one of the founders of UIC's chapter of the Gamma Kappa Theta Xi Fraternity; he graduated in 1993 with a B.A. in Economics. John worked in the financial industry at Scudder Investments (Kemper/Zurich) and Banc One Securities. John's career was put on hold when he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2003. John underwent treatment and fought hard to recover. Later, he went back to work holding positions with Chicago Public Schools, Floor Innovations/Millicare and Engineering Plus. He even became strong enough to run The Chicago Half Marathon. John was also active in politics, working on several Republican campaigns. John met his fianc‚e, Sharon Kula, in 2005, when his cancer was in remission. John's cancer became active again in 2006; and, he continued to battle the disease for over two years. John is survived by his sister, Theresa Strnad; his brother-in-law, Forrest Carter; and his fianc‚e, Sharon Kula and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations to John's family would be appreciated to help cover cost of the funeral after the financial strain of John's long term illness. I remember John as the "Alex P. Keaton" of our class. He was a Young Republican that was passionate about politics and economics. He seemed set on what he wanted to accomplish in life. As I read his obit, I am amazed that he was able to accomplish so much in such a short time. Peace.
