Like most Westbrookers, I went the Westland to B-CC route after '83. After graduating from B-CC, I went off to undergrad at Columbia University, which began my lifelong love affair with New York City. It was at this time that I "changed" my name, jettisoning "Addy" in place of my full birth name "Addison." It took my D.C. friends several years to adjust, but they came around. I do still occasionally get "Addy" from people who haven't seen me in a while, though.
I'm currently an associate in the litigation department at Latham & Watkins in New York. Throughout the last 25 years, though, I've also tried to maintain that part of me that had such fun braying like a jackass in "Midsummer Night's Dream" in 4th grade and staggering around like a drunken fool in "The Tempest" in 6th grade. I was an active member of the annual Varsity Show in undergrad at Columbia, and I also performed extensively in the Law Revue Talent Show and Business School Follies at the University of Michigan. Also at Michigan I co-founded "Rock 'n' Roll B-School" (apologies to the Ramones), the business school's R-rated counterpart to the more traditional Follies show.
While my job doesn't exactly leave me with a huge amount of time for creative pursuits, I do have a couple screenplays currently in the works, one or both of which I hope to get produced someday.
In between college and professional school, I performed stand-up comedy throughout New York City, rounding out that experience with a successful run of "Addison F. Golladay 2000: Good Enough for Government Work," a one man show in which I played an ill-fated presidential candidate. One of our classmates, Luis "Lucho" Vasquez was able to attend and left me with what was, by far, the nicest compliment I got from anyone on the show. He said simply: "Mrs. Weincek would have been proud."
Westbrook memories: Where to begin? Martin touched on most of my greatest hits in his profile: the carnivals, the balloon launches, Mrs. Weincek's Shakespeare plays, rectangular pizza. Perhaps the top thing I'd add to that is playing "The Game" on the lower field in 5th & 6th grade with Martin, Johnny, Chase, Ben, Gus, Gus's brother Dietz ('84), Adam McConagha ('84) and (sometimes) Michael DePinho.
Oh, and how could I forget Mrs. Weincek's adorable rabbit, Fred?
