"Thank you, Leigh," for placing those memories of Ralph in my head.

Ralph and his mom taught me to speak French at their house on the corner of Briggs Road.

Ralph's mom used to make him couscous for an afterschool snack almost every day. He hated it and I loved it.

Ralph idolized his older brother Hank, especially when he came home on leave wearing his US Airforce uniform. I thought Ralph's older sister was the prettiest girl I had even seen. She used to come to my house on Keswick Lane and hang out with my older sister, Marlene. Then, the two of them walked down to a boy's house on Thorpe Lane (I don't remember his name, but he lived across the street from David Dultz) and drove around Bethpage in the boy's black Olds Cutlass 442 with a silver shifter.

Ralph's mom had a yellow Chevy Camaro SS. Once in a while Ralph would "appropriate" his mom's car and drive us to junior high school. Then he would park the car in the farthest region of that school's enormous parking lot.

Ralph and I went to Madison Square Garden for George Harrison's "Concert for Bangladesh." He must have been carrying fifty pounds of camera equipment around his neck. Of course, we didn't have tickets but that didn't stop Ralph from convincing security that he was the concert's official photographer.

Ralph's family came from a distinguished family of Orthodox Jews originally from Moracco. Ralph was gentle, kind, smart, funny, fast as hell, and a good friend for many years.

A "gentleman's gentleman." Wonderful classmate during JFK Junior High and BHS.

Condolences to his friends and family,                                                                                                              Howard
