MRS. MAGGIE GABLE CARDEN, age 77, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on July 12, 2013. Funeral services at Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 12:00 with burial in Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo AL, Monday 22, 2013 at 11:00 am. Family Hour, Friday July 19, 2013 from 6-7 PM.

Obituary

The life and legacy of Maggie Gable Carden, aka “Sister” began on August 7, 1935 in Ensley AL and ended Friday, July 12, in Birmingham (Cairo) AL.  Her parents were the late George and Sarah Jackson Gable, and brother, the late George Gable, Jr.  

She accepted Christ at an early age at the Holy Family Catholic Church and later joined the Greater Saint Luke Missionary Baptist Church after moving to Roosevelt/Cairo in 1973. 

She was a graduate of Holy Family High School, Class of 1953 and received further training in General Business.  She enjoyed the fellowship with her former classmates on numerous occasions especially during class reunions.

She was a former employee of the Simon Mogiliner Manufacturing Co., and retired from Colonial Bank, Birmingham in 1993.

She leaves to cherish her memory and life: a loving husband Mr. James Carden, sons Harold (Glinda), Thomas (Roslyn), Andre (Freda), James (Kimberly), Ronald (Sherri), Cedric (Linda) and Reginald, and daughters Verretta, Carla and Camille (Yasin). 

Her survivors include 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Mary Gable, and Flora Carden Miller, loving nieces Cynthia, Jacqueline (David), Cheryl (Huberto), Lillian, nephews Eric and Brian (Cynthia); a host of  special friends, relatives, and ex co-workers.   Special thanks to friend Mrs. Annie Files for her unending care and support.
