In Memory

Cecil Pearson - Class Of 1953

Cecil Pearson, born January 26, 1933, in Roosevelt City (Bessemer), to Luther Guin and Rosie Pearson, traded his earthly garden for a heavenly one on May 23, 2025.

A proud graduate of Wenonah High School, Cecil went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army, earning an honorable discharge in 1955. He graduated from Miles College with a BS in Business Administration.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Robinson, who passed away on December 26, 1964, after a brief battle with MS. After Doris, he found his soulmate in Francine Hooks. Married for 60 years, theirs was a partnership built on family, fun, and a shared love of helping others.

Cecil was a devoted provider and the original girl dad. He cherished his daughters and took special pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also played a fatherly role to his great-niece Brandy. He treasured his role as a grandfather and was immensely proud of his grandsons, Terhan and Turi, and his granddaughter, Holland. He loved celebrating and honoring his friends-whether through home-cooked meals, handwritten notes, or surprise gifts. Everyone who knew Cecil felt his thoughtfulness and care.

For over 50 years, he gathered monthly with a close-knit group of friends known as TheCouples Club. A faithful member of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, Cecil found purpose and joy in his service-as a deacon. He took pride in being the oldest guy in the room. Even at 92, you could find him at the YMCA three times a week, working out with his personal trainer.

Cecil lived a life of service and style. He enriched the world not only through his good deeds and legendary cooking but through the example he set-giving generously, standing by his word, and always putting his best foot forward.

Cecil's legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Francine; his daughters, Annaliese Tinker, La Tanya Bayles (Rickey), and Cecilia Pearson; his grandchildren, Terhan Tinker, Turi Tinker, and Holland Bayles; and his great-granddaughters, Sierra, Sara, and Samara. He is also lovingly remembered by his nephew Wayne in California, son of his brother Robert; the family of his sister Janie Mae; and extended family and many cherished friends.

Public visitation is Friday, May 30, from 12 PM to 6 PM at Davenport & Harris Funeral Home (301 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Birmingham, AL 35211).
