Columbus, Georgia- Sergeant First Class Retired Joe Louis Binder passed away Friday at Columbus Hospice House. He was 80 years of age.
The son of the late John L. Binder and Virginia Arrington, Sgt. Binder was born in Bessemer, AL, and was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired following 20 years of dedicated service and was also retired from LabCorp following 28 years as a courier. Sgt. Binder was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by five siblings, Mary Nelson, Julius and Willie Arrington, Dorothy Carter and Oralee Lewis. Survivors include: his wife of 44 years, Mrs. Millie Elder Binder; five children, Anita Binder, Kenny Binder, Judy Binder Howard, Joe Binder, Jr. and Vickie Britt; one step daughter, Marquetta Barnes; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Ford and DeArthur Johnson; one brothers, John E. Ford; his mother-in-law, Martha Surles Field; loving in-laws, Benjamin Elder (Ruby), Donald Elder (Linda), Georgia Bledsoe and Sue Howard; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Sgt. Binder will Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Pastor Chad D. Bryant officiating. The interment will follow with Military Honors at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 3 til 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
