OK classmates, the countdown is beginning. Please update your profiles, especially contact info. If you need a new password or can't log in, send me an e-mail at avrobin2@gmail.com and I will get you back on the site. This is our 50th, lets make it THE one to remember. Dates are not locked down yet, but we are working on it. The agenda will basically be the same, but we welcome any suggestions to make it spectacular. You can send suggestions through the website to Montreo Rollins Pursifull, Albert Robinson, Craig Little, Linda Allen White or Diane VanDresser Dixon. This is not a complete list of committee members, but if you contact one of them the committee will get your suggestions.

Please plan to attend. We have a great class and there won't be too many more oppertunities to celebrate. Don't miss it.

Fellow classmates, it is time for me to once again perform my least favorite job as the website administrator. We have lost another classmate and friend. Joseph Paul Sullivan passed away on Thursday, April 5th, in Anchorage Alaska. Joe moved to Alaska while serving in the Air Force and fell in love. He remained there and raised a wonderful family. He returned to Blacksburg a few times to visit family and friends. He attended one of our reunions and more recently attended a reunion committee meeting. I urge you to read the post he left on our message forum on August 24th, 2014. It speaks volumes about the kind, considerate, and thoughtful person Joe was. He will be greatly missed. Please keep Joe's family in your thoughts and prayers during these tough times.

We had a great meeting tonight. We have confirmed a date and location for our 50th reunion. We once again have the German Club reserved for June 21st, and 22nd (2019). Va Tech will be coming off of a huge reunion weekend at that time, so we recommend makeing reservations ASAP. Keep in mind that we are planning some informal activities for Thursday and Friday. We are working on locking these down but will not know for a couple of months. We are considering a movie at the Lyric theater, a tour of the Alexander Black house, a visit to one of our new wineries, a tour of the new high school and maybe some other things. If you have a suggestion, use the Contact Us in the sidebar and let us know. Once we determine our costs and thus your cost, we will set up a method to pay on line if you choose, or you will still be able to mail a check.

PLEASE  check your profile on this website and update any addresses, both physical and e-mail.We will be sending out information and we don't want to miss anyone. I am already getting bouncebacks on e-mails.

If you know someone who has not been attending our reunions for some reason, reach out to them. These are great fun and we don't have a lot of these left. Where else can you be a teenager again for 3+ days, get good food and catch up with a long lost friend? The last reunion was only $20 for classmates and $25 for guests. What a bargain. Help make this reunion really special and plan to attend.                Al

Albert, thanks again.

Hey, check out this blog.  I just discovered it.  Lots of pictures from old Blacksburg.

http://that70sblacksburg.blogspot.com/

My suggestions:

- easy bicycle ride along the Huckelberry trail (I'd be willing to organize and lead it)

- guided walk around Blacksburg and campus

- on-line photo album to upload old pictures ... perhaps that's already a feature of this website that I have not taken advantage of

- hike up to cascades (is cascades still there?  I don't know.

- tubing at new river, if that's still a thing

- pizza and beer lunch somewhere (is greeks still around?)

I love the lyric movie idea:  butch cassidy, easy rider, 2001 space odyssee, billy jack, clint eastwood, the happening

If there are any dirt bike riders (motorcycles), I'd love to take a ride on some trails or someones farm.

Sincerely, Hite (215) 262-6700 mobile

Seems like every reunion falls at a time when we're out of town, but we travel a lot!  Our 50th won't be any different and it saddens me.  I know everyone will have a wonderful time!  Good luck with the planning (that's a LOT of work!)

Looking forward to seeing everyone--all the events sound like a lot of fun!!  As most of you know it's hard for me to draw on many pleasant memories of my time at BHS, but I did enjoy the 40th reunion & hope to be there for the 50th with smiles!  Sherry McBride Shelley

I have delayed announcing this for a couple of days because I am having a hard time believing and accepting this news. Dan Pinckard passed away in his sleep on the 4th of February. Heart attack. Please say a prayer for his wife Debbie. She has lost two daughters and a husband and needs the healing powers of prayer.

To all BHS classmates I was fortunate to interact with at our recent 50th reunion : I enjoyed seeing you and hearing your stories!! Some tales were light & entertaining, others were sad....but that's the way life has been. It was wonderful sharing a common beginning with all of you!

At this point, we are all "survivors" so let's celebrate that fact and try to make the most of life as "seniors". (Remember how much we wanted to be "seniors"?? ha-ha)

Thank you VERY MUCH to Al and "the Committee"!! Together you accomplished a stellar achievement!! Loved the food, loved the venues, loved the activity choices - even the weather cooperated!!  (I hope Al found his phone!) I am grateful for all your hard work.

Peace & Joy -

             love, Jenni B. Oliphant

THANK YOU for the "Wish You Were Here" video! And yes, I wish I could have been there but had a family reunion in Montana that couldn't be changed. I have slowed down that video several times in an attempt to identify everyone but that may take awhile! What a fantastic turnout, which is a testimony to Al and the planning committee. Have you all come up for air yet? I too have many fond memories of our eclectic class, fondly referred to as the "rare breed". Charlotte articulted our uniqueness beautifully in her message post. We did have FUN but I also remember the KINDNESS of others. Keep those photos coming as they are very much appreciated! Mitzi

Sadly, another of our class has gained their wings.  Jeanne Wingo Forrest -- I have attached the link to her obituary.  Jeanne was so very quiet and shy.  We used to walk home together in the later years of grade school. A lot of folks probably don't know that she was a major caregiver for her special needs brother and that she was raised by her grandmother.  I started about 2 years ago trying to find her and found that she was living in NC.  My thoughts are with her family.  https://www.pinesfunerals.com/notices/Jeanne-Forrest

Hite Baker (Baker)

Debbie Davis thanks for posting Jeanne Wingo's obit.  I remember Robert Wingo of course but not after 5th or 6th grade ... here my memory about him goes blank ... I don't know if he came to high school with us or detoured somewhere along the way.  The obit said Jeanne had six grandkids (notice the colorful semi-exotic names) and many neices and nephews ... so, good for her!  The obit infers a big happy clan.  I was pleased to learn about all Jeanne's family.  I'm sad Jeanne had to become "a major caregiver for Robert" ... he was an odd guy in grade school in my memory, so I guess something happened to him to require sister-care.  Caregiving is hard.   Oh, the stories of our classmates.  And ah, memories.  These intrigue me.  So I celebrate Jeanne Wingo's life and family.  Robert Wingo, I enjoyed the playground with you at our old Roanoke Street elementary school a long, long time ago.  Debbie Davis, thanks again for posting.  It's so weird to think that all of us will boil down to an obit like Jeanne's some day.

Fellow classmates: We have lost another classmate. Terry 'Herbie' Albert past on Jan 8th. He was dealing with non alcoholic liver sclerosis. Funeral arrangements are by McCoy funeral home in Blacksburg; visitation is Sunday 12th from 3-6, funeral on Monday at 11 am.

Terry had a great sense of humor and an infectious smile and laugh. He will be greatly missed.

So sad to hear of Terry he was always so much fun.  You can't even think of him without thinking

of Gary Bishop, Charles Lytton, Gary Long and Chuck Shorter.    When you think of one

you always see the others.   Too many of those we grew up with went to school with are now

gone so today we mourn another may he rest in peace and may all of us who are still

here remember him and keep him in our hearts.  Sending thoughts and prayers to his family.

Classmates, I sure hope all are coping. Hugh Campbell (Greg Campbell's Dad) has written a book entitled "The Blacksburg Drama", which is now on sale through the Blacksburg Museum and Cultural Center/Alexander Black House, via this link. Hugh is regarded as a leading authority on local history and spoke to many of us during the 45th reunion.  https://www.blacksburgmuseum.org/product-page/the-blacksburg-drama  Read the link on how to order and for a brief description of the book.

Thanks, Craig Little

Fellow Classmates: I was contacted by Linda (Allen) White this morning that her brother Woody journeyed to the next life this morning. Please keep Linda and family in your prayers. Woody has had health issues for some time and as we mourn our loss, we can rejoice that he suffers no more.

Update: Woody had donated his body to science so there will not be a funeral. Linda said that there will be a memorial service at a later date.

Ttoughts, wishes and rememberances are welcome on this forum.

With great sorrow,   Al

Sad to hear of Woody's passing. Linda and family, you are in my prayers!
You are right Albert, he always had a beaming smile! 😁

Really sorry to hear about Woody. My prayers are with you Linda and your family. It is so hard to lose a sibling. Woody was a fun guy to be around and I always loved to hear his laugh. I worked with him and Gary Bishop at Mick-or-Mack. Had some really good times.
