William Terry McLaughlin

Classmates,  My friend and bandmate in The Emanons, Robert Louis, brother of Jamie, Tommy and Barbara has died. I remember him as an enthusiastic bassist, a creative artist, and in his later years a world class restorer of Antiques. His parents Russell and Gertie supported Robert, and encouraged his artistic pursuits, including allowing our band to rehearse in their basement. Robert struggled with his physical and emotional health throughout his lifetime yet remained the same friendly, funny, and loving man despite his challenges. He was well read and an insightful conversationalist. We remained friends throughout our lives and I will miss his sarcastic wit.  Terry McLaughlin

As you can tell from the well said message from Terry, we have lost another classmate and friend Robert Louis.

I only crossed paths with Robert occationally after graduation, but whenever we did cross paths, we knew that we were and always would be friends. I have memories that will have to fill the void of his loss. Al

In Response to Debi's question about a class creator facebook page.....

We used to have a page called 'class connector' which worked through facebook. Facebook discontinued this service a while back so we no longer have that option.Guess they couldn't control what we were posting. Anyway, we are left with 'message forum' , 'message center' and  'Announcements'

A new year has arrived despite covid and I am so glad to see 2021 gone. My sincerest hopes are that your health, both physical and mental is intact and that you can be optomistic about the future. All the things that have plagued this nation in 2020 and 2021 have plagued us before and we will come out the other end a better people and better nation like we did before. Look out for each other, reach out to each other and share the good times with each other. We are  all in this together. One of the best assets of our class has been the loyalty and support for our classmates. Let's keep it going.

BEST WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR.    Al

Received the following message from several classmates:

Just found out that Larry Smith passed away Sunday. Such a great person. Obituary can be found on McCoy Funeral Home website.

Larry was active with our committee while he was able. We will all miss him.

J. A. "Lex" Litton

So sorry to hear about Larry. He was the nicest of people. I never saw him in a bad mood or heard a harsh word from him. He was one of our best for sure. Many condolences to all those who will miss him greatly. I remember a very subtle sense of humor. I had to look at him two or three times to see if he was joking and then there would come that grin and laugh.

Richard Thomas Howerton III

I am proud that my youngest son, Rob, created this digital art for the cover of my new book, Sparks from Lightning Bugs and other Life Lessons. After being inspired for years by Charles Lytton's work, I finally got around to sharing 99 vignettes about things that have happened to me over the years, 24 of which occurred in Blacksburg. Aimed to entertain, inspire, poke fun at myself, and encourage you to share your stories, you might find it of interest. More information is available on Amazon or my website richardhowerton.com.

I'm looking forward to our next reunion and am ever appreciative for the fine work of our Reunion Committee and expecially Al Robinson for his tireless maintenance of this site.

In memory of those who have left us and our times together at BHS, I say Onward Indians!

Richard-

Thought you might like to hear from someone who's finished reading your book. I have always liked to read stories about people's lives. (After fairy tales, I jumped right into biographies!)

I LOVED your introduction! I thought the way you chose words, your brevity, and your use of humor throughout was excellent. At the finish of reading - I hopped around & didn't read it straight thru- I felt I "knew" you- there was alot of insight into the person who became "Richard".

The first descriptive word that came to my mind was "charming". The way your presented your ideas was simple & unique. I am very glad you completed the effort to tell your tales!

Happy Trails (- I actually say this frequently)

                          Jenni Beyer Oliphant

Friends, we have lost another classmate. Robert (Bob) Currie past November 24th unexpectedly. The visitation and funeral are on December 5th starting at 10am. I know that very few would be able to make it, but  I ask that you read his obituary. Robert was a dedicated husband and father. May he rest in peace. https://www.mullinsfuneralhome.com/obituary/robert-bob-currie

We also lost Larry Smith. His obituary is listed with McCoy Funeral Home. I always admired Larry for being a very faithful man. His family lives up the street from us... The house always full of family.
