School Story:
It's been great reading the updated posts of our classmates. I look forward to seeing those of you who can make it to our 45th. See you all at the 50th!
I wish I had witnessed all of the stories told by our classmates on this site.
I recall Cam Wiley giving Jon Billig a heart attack by smacking a yardstick on his desk in 8th grade math class for falling asleep. Then there was the time the track team (Charley Patterson) knocked out the back window of a school bus saying "hey" to a car load of girls by showing them his, how shall I say, best side.
I have retold many times Mrs. Murphy's famous words to us 7th graders, having been bused to the BHS auditorium for our 8th grade orientation, "Today, you are adults, children."
I have written as a hobby a bit over the years, and several years ago, I bumped into Mrs. Cole, my 11th grade English teacher. I always wanted to tell her how much it meant to me that she let me write fiction for her theme assignments and how I credited her for setting me on a path of creativity. She replied kindly that, while my name rang a bell, she didn't recall that she had done so or that I did, and apologized. I share this not because my writing was memorable (it certainly wasn't), but because that's what good teachers did and still do -- impact students significantly and positively without ever knowing it. Here's to all good teachers - past, present, and future!
