Comments:

left VT during second summer session 1977,to go to sea on Research Vessel Robert D. Conrad, operated by Columbia University, conducting marine geophysics studies, in some cases to substantiate plate tectonics theory. Travelled Arctic, Antarctic, Pacific, Atlantic, Norwegian sea, South China Sea. Left ship in Norway,1978, travelled europe for 2 months before returning to New York. took job at Coastal Engineering Research Center in 1980, studying coastal ocean processes before taking job at Johns Hopkins University in 1983. I still work at the Applied Physics Laboratory of JHU. Marriage 1983 to 1994 was complete disaster. remarried to Marilyn in 1997. Second marriage is glorious. we have 2 boys. keeps me active. I am now an applied scientist, working on ocean and atmospheric physics for U.S. Navy. I supervise a small technical team that travel often to field tests around the country and overseas, developing and testing new radar concepts and methods of assessing atmospheric and oceanic impacts on radar performance. My latest art project is carving a chair out of a trunk of a wild cherry tree that was damaged when hurricane Isabel passed through Maryland. its almost done. I am also working in oil paints on large canvases. latest subjects are semi-abstract taken from patterns in stone, like the picture sandstone found in New Mexico. My latest adventure was beheading a skunk without getting sprayed. I added his skull to a collection I use for lectures on anatomy in the elementary schools. I built a log cabin in Virginia, in the foothillls of the Blue Ridge mountains. we go there on weekends and holidays. my son Jack received an award from cub scouts for saving a drowning 4-year old boy when Jack was 6 years old. I did get a pilots license, passed the written for instruments rating, stopped flying when Jack was 9 months old - not enough time and money to be capable of good relexes in an emergency. so I enjoy John Hinerman's stories of flying jets. I met my wife Marilyn at the lab where I work. she is staying at home with the kids now, very active in the school and community. she is my princess and I write her poetry and carve wooden hearts for her - one each Christmas. I have improved my meditation since the days in AJ. my favorite jello is still raspberry.

Since Spring of 2008. I am currently paving my concrete patio with brick pavers. I came up with a creative idea of interlocking arches - taking 30 times the labor of simple brick laying. But I am saving a bundle by doing it myself. Recently visited the US Navy Cruiser, USS San Jacinto (CG 56) to deliver presentation on radar ducting in the Mid-east. I have wondered where the adults are in our society. Found some of them are commanding our warships.

School Story:

Favorite story at VT was during freshman year, when I threw John's mattress out the window, and as everyone was returning from class, begged him from the 6th floor to please come back. you should have seen the looks on the girls faces.
