Blacksburg High School
Class of 1970
Greeting
BHS Class of 1970 celebrated our 55th Reunion at Eastern Divide on July 26
There have been some new photos, with captions, added to "Our 55th Reunion tab" from our Class gathering. The issue has been resolved with the number photos in that space.
If there are pictures that you would like to share that you haven't sent me so far, you can add them to the site yourself, or email Dickie at DickRedding@icloud.com
What a fun evening with longtime friends.
Onward!

Jimmy Wright Inducted Into the Blacksburg High School 2021 Athletic Hall of Fame Class
Jimmy Wright was a 4-year letterman in track and cross country on two undefeated cross-country teams. He set and held the BHS 2-mile record for two years, made the JV basketball team as an eighth grader, started on all offensive, defensive, and special teams on the eighth grade and JV football teams.
As the smallest defensive end to ever start for BHS, Wright led the team in backfield tackles and received the Coaches Award. The Indians’ 1969 defense gave up only 41 points in nine district games.
As a walk-on to Virginia Tech’s wrestling team with no formal experience, Jimmy started and lettered as a freshman and placed third in the collegiate state championship as a junior.
Jimmy coached Bridgewater College’s indoor and outdoor track and cross-country teams to third place or better conference finishes each of two seasons, qualified two male athletes to national qualifying times/distances, and started the first-ever women’s cross country team.
Jimmy is active is his church and volunteers at the local crisis pregnancy center. He is thankful to God for all these opportunities, but he is especially thankful for his wife, Wanda, their sons, Jamie and Matthew, daughters-in-law, Lisa and Amanda, and grandchildren Roman and Lunden.
Congratulations, Jimmy, on being honored for your exceptional accomplishments. We are proud of you!
