Marvin Edward Jarels

Marvin Edward Jarels, 59, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Born on December 14, 1950, he was the son of Walter Jarels and Frances Smith Jarels, of Blacksburg, Va.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nadean Duncan Jarels; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Darren Werner; grandsons, William and Samuel Werner; daughter, Kayla Jarels; son, Jameson Jarels; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Jim Mattox; sister and brother-in­law, Joyce and Mike Randall; and sister and brother-in-law, Enola Gay and Donald Hixon; and several beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Marvin served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam and received a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his service.

He worked for the postal service for nearly 30 years and was the face of the downtown Christiansburg Post Office. He enjoyed doing yard work, caring for his vehicles and riding his Harley Davidson. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan and an avid supporter of the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Marvin, who always had a smile and a helping hand, was a staple in the community and was loved by many.
