Richard Brooks

There are just so many that I haven't forgotten [yet]!... Here are some snippets to get this train rolling down Memory Lane:

- parking her folks' RV for Sylvia Lopez at a flower-making party;
- introducing Dennis B. to whipped cream [at a different flower-making party];
- being the first cross country team manager to NOT go on to race with the Varsity squad;
- going to Europe with the German Club;
- misplacing my shako for one of my first band parades as drum major;
- having Tina Skinner ['80?] want me to write her campaign speech when she ran for some ASB office - after she heard mine when I ran for VP;
- riding back from a [winning] frosh football game in Imperial Valley - on an air-conditioned bus! (it was a miserably hot day otherwise); I think I had two sacks in that one...;
- being the Sports Editor for the "perfect issue" of the "Bear Facts";
- driving out to Valencia to catch a varsity baseball game with Mike Quinn ['78] - getting a flat on the way there, and busting a clutch cable on the way back;

Am I rambling yet? Still?

Uh, I went off to college, ultimately graduating from UC Santa Cruz; moved to San Francisco, where I picked up a teaching credential at S.F State, then started working at the popular Exploratorium; after 15 years there, I moved on to help open a bookstore near Union Square; then finally scored a job closer to home at Berkeley Public Library.

More recently [as of April 2009], I picked up and moved to the Hill Country of Texas - I'm now a resident of Austin!

And even more recently [as of September 2011], I moved to the heart of the Bluegrass, Lexington KY.

I'm still working on getting a book published....
