April 29 is Miss Mary Selk's 100th birthday. In the early 60's she had beautiful salt and pepper black hair that made me think she must be close to 100 then. How little I knew then about when and how one grays.
She was our instructor for choir, Madrigals, Trebleairs and other small groups. She set a high standard for excellence as evidenced by many Superior awards for her groups at state competitions.
My mother was at Westminster for 3 years before she died, and I was able to visit with Miss Selk several times. I talked to her last Christmas and she said she is doing well except she now uses a cane or a walker for stability. Bad Knees. Until Covid she still attended Second Presbyterian and lead the Sunday afternoon Vespers at Westminster. She is still as sharp as a tack.
Covid has prevented the anticipated 'Musical" reunion that was planned for this occasion, but we will do the best we can. If you are interested please send a card to her % Westminster Village, 2015 E Lincoln Street, Bloomington, IL, 61701. Westminster would not confirm her apartment number but said it is not necessary.
I'm sure a flurry of cards would brighten the day of a very fine lady. Thanks to all and stay safe.
