Two pictures of by-gone days, the first being one of the buildings from the Fairgrounds when it was located on Route 9 East of Town.


 

The next one is a picture of the actual Fairgrounds, rides and all.  For you who no longer live in Bloomington, about 20 some years ago they sold that land which now houses Lowe's, some Banks and other businesses and moved out on Route 9 West to a much smaller area, not as nice as they had in my humble opinion.

We are losing one of our Breakfast members.  Mary Stoutamoyer Purkey (the lady in pink on the end) is leaving us and moving to Florida so she can be near her son.   We'll miss you Mary but you'll start an exciting new chapter in your life, best wishes and don't forget us!

This is a picture of Montgomery Wards and for those of you who no longer live here, it is going to be torn down and the immediate plan is for a parking lot (which we need like a hole in the head) until someone decides to build something on the lot.

 

On a lighter note, this is what the Jefferson Cafeteria was offering to their patrons, note the prices!  I ate there once in my life and it was really good.

We thought it was a special treat to eat at Jefferson Cafeteria and to have all those choices.  The prices seem almost unbelievable!

I worked at Montgomery Ward for one summer in the men's department.  I had many different summer jobs but that one was quite  boring.  If you were not waiting on a customer you were to be straigtening the clothing displays.  And usually a supervisor was posted on the stairs to watch the clerks and make sure they were working.  But for a dollar an hour who can complain? 😀
