I am sad to announce that Lynda Guy Cox's husband, Tony Cox, has passed away. God be with the family at this time.

BLOOMINGTON — Gerald Anthony “Tony” Cox, 69, of Yorkville, formerly of Bloomington, passed away peacefully Monday (March 24, 2014) at his home.

He was born April 9, 1944, in Bloomington, the son of Charles Kenneth and Corona Mary Snyder Cox.

Tony was united in marriage on Aug. 20, 1966, to Lynda Guy, and they spent the next 47 happy years together. Tony graduated from and was a former president of the Student Council at Trinity High School, Bloomington, where he also participated in both baseball and wrestling. Mr. Cox was a graduate of Illinois State University and received his master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. Mr. Cox enjoyed several hobbies and when living in Bloomington was the co-founder of an Antique Model A Car Club.

Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Tony is survived by his wife, Lynda Cox, Yorkville; his family, David (Erica) Cox and their children, Courtney and Cara, Sugar Grove; Jim (Tammy) Cox and their children, Matthew and Andrew, Yorkville; and Laura (Andrew) Strong and their children, Shannon, Logan and Nathan, Jerseyville; his siblings, John (Lynn) Cox, Randy (Marilyn Lockwood) Cox, Cathy Martin, Pat (Mike) Nelson, Michael Cox and Sue Johnson, all of Bloomington-Normal; many, many nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Virginia S. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Corona Cox; his brothers, Joseph in infancy, and Thomas and Robert Cox; brothers-in-law, James Martin and Dr. Richard Trefzger; and his father-in-law, Thomas H. Guy.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Yorkville, with Father Matthew Lamoureux officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Yorkville.

Trivia:

What is the oldest restaurant in Bloomington/Normal that is in the same location? This surprised me when I first discovered it.

McDonalds in Normal, Main Street.  Grand Cafe may be older, but they have relocated.

Not even close. McDonald's opened in 1959. The Grand moved 3 times from their original location.

Hint, Lucca was second oldest in the same location and it is 5 years newer than this one. :)

We are looking for the oldest continuing restaurant under the same name and address in Bloomington/Normal. Jim's was the Brittany not that many years ago. Hint, this business started around 1930 and is still there today.

Luca Grill has been in business for 75 years so it has to be something older than that.  Still thinking what it could be.

Lucca started in 1936. This place started in 1930. I picked Lucca the first time too. This one surprised me.

How about Bloomington Country Club?

Jim, that might be true but if so, they didn't list under public restaurants. Good guess. Wrong side of town. :)
