Did you ever go inside Novak Flowers which was located on North Main  or  receive anything from them.  They always had such neat window displays.

My wife, Janet, knew them very well, she was their floral designer while I was over seas in the service.

We had planned on resuming the Breakfasts this Wednesday but unfortunately it's not going to happen.  Shannon's has take out and weather permitting you can sit outside but Wednesday is going to be cool so hopefully we'll be able to do it next month.

This  is a picture of Beer Nuts where our own Jim Shirk took over the reins from his Dad and now is son is at the helm.

Jim, I have always loved Shirk's Beer Nuts, but I was very happily surprised, that  when I moved away from Bloomington, to see that the Beer Nuts, fortunately, seemed to be everywhere. While living in Bloomington, I had no idea that the company was that large.  How wonderful that your son has taken over, so you can play golf, cruise, travel more.

Jim, I recall when we were in Scouts at Franklin Grade School your dad gave us a tour of his "factory".  He showed us how he mixed the nuts in a large tub and used a large wooden paddle to get the delicious coating applied to the Beer Nuts.  Then he showed us his nifty packaging machine which produced small bags of Beer Nuts properly labeled.  I think he even marketed and distributed them.  A very vertically integrated company operation.  Like Susie, we are happy to find Beer Nuts at several locations and even in The Carolinas.  We still love themπŸ‘πŸ‘. Best Corky and Patty

Earlier you posted the hospital pictures. My brother, Jeff, and I were born at Mennonite Hospital.

About Beer Nuts:  I have a big box of their products sitting in my dinning room, they were having a half price sale. We use them as gifts for family and friends. I am always happy to tell people the nuts come from my hometown, Bloomington, Illinois, and I know the owner, we went to high school together.

Happy Thanksgiving πŸ¦ƒ  Janice (Scott) & Jerry Vitton

I am still setting up Grocery stores, and openned a new Harvest Market on Veterans in Springfield, IL. today. Simular to the one in Champaign, IL.

I do the Category Management for them also, and you can bet I have Beer Nuts on the shelf.

Who remembers eating at  the Jefferson  Cafeteria or getting baked goods from the Bakery?  It was a must every  Saturday to stop at the Bakery but I only ate at the Cafeteria  once.

Barbara, I remember my mom and I eating at the cafeteria after we had gone shopping together around the square. That was always a nice treat.

I found this picture of the YMCA which was torn down for guess what, a parking lot!  A new building was built on the corner of Main and McArthur and there is talk of building another new building.

Thank you for the birthday greeting, Barb.  Your photos and comments bring back many fond memories and are appreciated.  My mom worked at the court house and I often walked downtown to browse and meet her after work for a ride home.  I took piano lessons from "Doc" Bradshaw upstairs at Miller Music.  The recent photo of Montgomery Wards is special because that is where Ken and I met working there one summer while we were college students; he at ISU, me at NIU.  Had we not worked there, we probably would have not met.  God is good!  Thank you for all your effort in keeping this connection alive!  Also, to those that support you in this.

We have lost another classmate, Mary Lou Robinson Boog passed away yesterday.  They are going to have a Celebration of Life in the Spring but if you would like to do a Memorial  in her name St. Jude is  where they would like it to go.  If you go to their website it will tell you how to go about doing it.  Let's keep her family in our thoughts.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.  Thank you so much Barbara for keeping this site up and running so good.

I check often for postings from classmates and I remember so many of my classmates with fond memories.

The postings of old buildings sure bring back Bloomington of old back to life again.
