This is a picture of the beach up at Lake Bloomington.  I never went there but it looks like it was pretty popular.  I read somewhere people used to go over the spillway for fun.  I can't in my wildest dreams imagine doing this, did they swim there, climb out of a boat, how would they go about it?   I think it sounds like a death wish, any thoughts?

Comments about two previous pictures:

1.   Washington school.  I attended Washington school from first grade thru Junior High. We lived at the end of Jefferson Street which was a dead end street. We often played kick the can, mother may I, and red rover at the end of the street. Miss Stady was our homeroom teacher in junior high. We were opening the school store The Day the Music Died, which was when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the "Big Bopper" died in a plane crash, February 1959. Everyone was very upset. Also, I remember going down the big enclosed curvy slide when we would have fire drills. It reminds me of the slides in the water parks today.

2.  Lake Bloomington.   I attended the Girl Scout camp at Lake Bloomington. One of our jobs was cleaning the outhouses and a snake slithered out of one of them, screening, we did. Also, my mom took the three of us Jeff, Janice, and Janenne along with my aunt and two cousins Steve and Linda DeVary to the Lake Bloomington beach, Lots of fun. At the end of the day, our treat was a frozen snickers/Milky Way bar on a stick.  Janice Scott Vitton

Well people, I think I'm loosing it.  I just realized I posted Lake Bloomington beach two different times so I promise not to do it again.  It gets a little hard to come up with something each time but I'll try my best.

Barb, I agree with Corky and Patty. I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate all the work you're doing for us. I've been in Tennessee since I graduated from ISU. All these pictures bring back wonderful memories of time in Bloomington, time at BHS, and time with Pete. Thank you.

Barbara, I agree with the prior comments and also appreciate the work you do taking care of our class website. Since I have not lived in Bloomington since 1963, and have not been back since 1983, I for one really  enjoy seeing the posts you are able to make to the site. Please keep it up.

Today we’re looking South on Main Street which was a really long block.  The businesses are  on the West side of  the Street.

I'm going to be fair to the other side of Main Street, looks to me like there were a lot of bars!

This picture is a little closer to Jefferson Street, I spent many hours in the Brack Shop.

Did your parents get prescriptions from  Nierstheimers Drug Store on North Main?

Who went to Murray's  Hobbyland?  Does anyone remember if it was Murray's Dairy before Murray's Hobbyland, for some reason I thought it was.

Phil Hershey (Hershey)

My parents got their rx's from this store. My mother shopped some at the Piggly Wiggly next door. I delivered newspapers for the Panty as we called it and picked up my delivery from the drug store as did several others that also did deliveries. We always tried to sneak a peak at the Playboys that were on the top shelf of the magazine rack. I went to Murrays Hobby store a lot to buy model planes and ships also to buy and trade coins and stamps. Thanks for posting these pictures and for the great memmories.

Did you ever go inside Novak Flowers which was located on North Main  or  receive anything from them.  They always had such neat window displays.
