Barbara, you have posted so many pictures and stories of Bloomington I think I can connect to most. We appreciate the time and effort you take to keep the website going.
1. Livingston's and their Capezio shoes. Corinne Rusk and I had several pairs. They had sweaters and skirts to match. We would trade outfits with each other. There was a light blue, yellow, and peach color I can remember.
2. The Irving theater. I was meeting several friends at the movies on my 13th birthday. My mom dropped me off. I gave the ticket person a dollar. He gave me back $0.75. I said I will have you know that I am 13. He took back $0.50 leaving me only a quarter to spend on candy and popcorn when I could've had $0.75. 13 and older were considered adults.
3. Ensenbergers. Our first living room furniture came from Ensenbergers. We bought a couch, two chairs, two lamps, and two end tables. They even delivered them to North Aurora. I still have one of the lamps today, 53 years later. My sister, Janenne, and I used to babysit Dorothy Ensenberger TeVoert's six children and are still friends today with the family.
4. State Farm Park, my summer home. My birthday is in June and I usually got a new bathing suit and my summer clothes then. We would go almost every day to the park, use baby oil as our suntan lotion, and enjoy the afternoon. I love summer! We had fun times, too, at Lakeside diving/jumping off their two diving boards, one was very high and ice-skating on the lake in the winter.
5. Shopping. I can remember shopping at all the stores on the Square. On Saturday we would walk from Towanda Avenue to downtown and buy a 45 RPM record for $.49 and then they went up to $.99. I still have a few of those records.
6. Jerry and I would be interested in a 60th class reunion in 2022. If we can be of any assistance, let us know. So many great connections, keep them coming. Thanks for the birthday wishes, too.
