John William Thoms, 71, of Phoenix, AZ died Monday, February 1, 2016, following numerous health complications. John was born on November 23, 1944 in Bloomington, IL to John and Margaret Thoms, and he graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bloomington. After serving in the U. S. Navy, he attended Illinois State University and began his lengthy career as a computer technician, a career which eventually led him and his family to Arizona. John was married to Judith A. Jacobs of Lexington, IL for forty-eight wonderful years, and he is survived by his wife, Judy Thoms of Phoenix, and daughters Brenda Grothaus and Carrie Thoms. He also leaves behind three precious grandchildren, Tyler, Hallie and Nick, and his brother, Michael Thoms of Towanda, IL. John loved music and was an avid reader, and his pleasant nature and storehouse of tales made it easy for him to chat with anyone. He loved to recount memories of his youth, and he always had a smile on his face. John will always be remembered by his family for being an amazing husband, a wonderful father, and a loving grandfather. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. His memorial service is scheduled to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N.7th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020.
