John William Thoms, 71, of Phoenix, AZ died Monday, February 1, 2016, following numerous health complications. John was born on November 23, 1944 in Bloomington, IL to John and Margaret Thoms, and he graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bloomington. After serving in the U. S. Navy, he attended Illinois State University and began his lengthy career as a computer technician, a career which eventually led him and his family to Arizona. John was married to Judith A. Jacobs of Lexington, IL for forty-eight wonderful years, and he is survived by his wife, Judy Thoms of Phoenix, and daughters Brenda Grothaus and Carrie Thoms. He also leaves behind three precious grandchildren, Tyler, Hallie and Nick, and his brother, Michael Thoms of Towanda, IL. John loved music and was an avid reader, and his pleasant nature and storehouse of tales made it easy for him to chat with anyone. He loved to recount memories of his youth, and he always had a smile on his face. John will always be remembered by his family for being an amazing husband, a wonderful father, and a loving grandfather. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. His memorial service is scheduled to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N.7th St., Phoenix, AZ 85020. Family and friends are welcome to attend and join in celebration of John's life. Visit hansenmortuary.com for condolences.
MAY HE REST IN PEACE

Thank you, Donna for following up on John's service information. We are away from AZ right now and I am truly sorry that we cannot be there for John and his family. I did not know he had been so ill.

God bless our classmate and his family. I can still see his face looking into the classroom thru the windows from the hallway (the nun had sent him there) LOL he was a funny guy. R.I.P. John, you will be missed.

Mother's Day is near, most of us no longer have a mom alive. Just remember that she's listening to us and watching over us from the heavens above. No matter where we are or what we are doing, there’s nothing that we should value more than her past love. I hope your memories of your mom will always keep you happy and smiling.

First let me say "God Bless the U.S.A." we sure need him now more than ever. I for one hate election years as there is so much nastiness in politics.

I want to wish all of the July and August babies a safe and Happy Birthday. Best wishes for smooth sailing in the coming year. God bless you with wonderful health and happiness.

I was truly proud of Central Catholic's Volleyball team. Great work, ladies and Coach, J.R. Banister!!!

Keep cool this summer. God bless.

YES!!! It's the first day of September! I can feel a change in the AZ weather already. I see the sun is coming up a bit later in the mornings. I am ready for some Fall weather.

Happy Birthday to our September and October babies. I hope you have some great celebrations planned for your special days. Best wishes for a happy, healthy year ahead.

God bless.
