Judy, that picture of Richards is pricless. Jeff, coach Peterson would of loved that one! Pete caught Leeanne Shopek and I smoking behind the hockey rink during our jr.year,he said, Harris, you will never play goalie on my team if your smoking. I still play hockey, but I never played goalie again. Nice to hear from Dave Oster, a Indian Mounds,Oak Grove,Kennedy guy but where are the rest of you that took that route! John Primrose is in Bloomington,he Randy Almstead and Tom Faggerwold hang out and play music together.Oh ya,Tom Colbert definitly had a radio show during school. This is great stuff, would like to see more of you readers chime in !

OK folks, how about this for Bloomington trivia: (Lorie's Studio 97 and Tom's Lemon Tree Restaurant didn't go back far enough.)

Let's reach deep, deep into our past. Does anybody remember the Dairy Queen on Lyndale and 96th or so? As I recall, it was across from the Community bank. And on the corner of 95th and Lyndale was a garden supply store that had baby chicks in the window fronting Lyndale.

Steve Eliason - Were you the one in 10th grade, umm, Geography? (with Mr. Carlson) that knew all the professional sports stats so well? You or Rick Elander, I couldn't remember. But I was very impressed.

Judy, Judy, Judy, all I can say is I wish I had a camera back then.

And Matt, priceless..... What was the concert you and I went to? Was it Fog Hat at the Civic Center? I think that is the one where everyone was shooting fireworks inside the arena and the cops almost started a riot when they tried to arrest someone out of the croud.
Also Coach Petersen had a talk with me to and told me to quit hanging around the people I was hanging around with and basically to choose one or the other so I chose my friends.

Does anyone keep in contact with Chuck Kuester or CR Hamilton? Are they still around town?

Michelle Franz (Lisser)

Adam-- That was Harris' Feed store there. ( Nice old man, he isnt around anymore) He had a huge horse farm out just past the land they bull dozed and became burnsville mall back then. That was a great old feed store.

But do any of you remember the Clover Sweet shop right there too? It was a candy store, across from white castle, use to be right in front of the Community Bank!

Also, bringing Colbert back to the story, yes I do remember him having some sort of radio gig.
And now that you mention Tom Faggerwold...I remember as youngsters in Ele...I think Ginger had a crush on Tom.....for quite a while, she might be mad at me for mentioniing it, sorry G, at least that is how I remember it! And Kathy Sup and I were talking off line, do any of you girls remember having crushes on David Schmoll and Russ Riley! Two Riverside Hotties....

Michelle - I do remember the Sweet Shop. In fact, some relatives of mine owned it, but I don't think it was around too many years?

Lori A. Tuchscherer (Broadhead)

Jeff Richards - correct me if I am wrong, but didn't I see you with your face painted at an Alice Cooper concert at the Met Center?

08/15/08 09:24 AM #253

Steven R. Eliason

Marilyn L. Gould (VanOsdel)- That must have been Rick Elander

Aaah Studio 97 - I believe we saw a midnight showing of "Reefer Madness" and let's not forget "A Star Is Born"!

Jeff Richards - I know you remember the Clark Gas station on 98th & Lyndale and what about Walsh Drug and the old Ben Franklin?

Hey!!!! Who all's going to Majors tonight?

08/15/08 09:45 AM #257

Judy D. Brevig (Haus)

Jeff R. - I realize the "old photo" game could be a dangerous one for me. Truce.

I remember the Sweet Shop, the baby chicks at the feed store and especially Ben Franklin at the Clover Shopping Center. Jayne K. and I would ride our bikes there (which is a part of history because no one lets their kid go anywhere alone now!) and we would buy "penny" candy. For her mom's bday, we paid .10 for Evening-in-Paris cologne. I'm sure it was nice!

I still have my ticket from the Alice Cooper concert. I believe that was the Billion Dollar Babies tour. Ouch. My brain hurts from going back that far.

Tami M. - sorry about your recurring schedule nighmare. It reminded me that I forgot my locker combo at Portland. I think the office ladies spent the better part of the first week of school looking up schedules and combos for us.

When I think about how many brain cells I killed going to concerts by just breathing the smoke "I did not inhal" Riiiight...:-) I wonder how far I COULD have gone in life..:-) I have a full photo albums of stubbs Ranging from Barry Manalow (sp) to Ozzzie Osburn to the Comodors, Kiss...Wow!!! My youngest daughter Melissa now 19 was just looking at it about a month ago. The cool thing is that she likes a lot of the same musuc now.

Jeff, CR I have not seen in years,Chuck lives in Apple Valley but doesn't come to many events with our old group. I guess he's tied up with family stuff. Also Chucks son Andrew and my son Matty became friends while working together, but didn't realize their dads were old friends til months later! They still hang out once in a while.

Does any body work for a living???

Harris Feed Store Thanks Michelle that one was driving me nuts. How about the Westwood Skate Exchange right next to the bus depot on the north side of the post office. And also the Bloomington Public Library on the S.E. corner of 98th & Nicollet. That was next to the P.D.Q. and Old Piper Inn. Was Kennedy even built yet??

I used to work at th 'Lectric Light Fair. I was the guy on nights making change & unjamming machines. Sometimes after work I would shut off all the lights except for the pinball machines the put up games on all of them & freinds that stayed in played all the pinball they could stand. Were any of you in on that? Matt maybe you? It sure came in handy having the keys for everything & a one way mirror on the office. Does anybody smell something burning???

Steve, thanks for bringing up the old Bloomington library that used to be on 98th and Nicollet. Does anybody remember those goofy library cards they gave us? They were pink, and they had a strip of hard metal embedded into the cardboard card with our ID number embossed on it. Crazy memories!

Dorene J. DeLong (Bartz)

I fogot all about "Lectric Light". My friend Kathy Bixby Prible (classs of 80) and I spent a lot of time in there playing foosball. Kathy wasn't allowed to go in there so we said we were going to the Library or the Drug Store (what parents don't know). We did almost get caught a couple of times when we saw her mom drive down the road.

Wasn't there a place on Lyndale right off of 98th called Mr. Chicken or something like that?

08/15/08 12:52 PM #267

Kennedy opened in 19 & 65 due to the rapid growth of Bloomington at the time. Thanks Google.

Adam you brought up the chicks in the window at Harris feed store. I wanted some so bad! We had rabbits so we would get straw bails from there. They always had to peel me away from the baby chicks. Back then there was a lady on the corner of 100th & 3rd that had a horse for many years until they made a ordinance making that illegal.

Walsh's grocery or Bloomington Drug store had horse drawn wagon rides around the building once a year. Anybody remember that. I always wanted to ride the horse not in the stupid wagon!

If the fog can clear enough some of us might remember Harpo's records and tapes. They sold other items there too ...

Harpo's had records?!

Yeah there was a big stick about them being there across the street from a kid's hangout.
