Sue - Good Humor on the picture. Looks like we stepped right out of the TV set from the "That 70's Show". Who is the little brother & sister in the picture? Good Yucks! I am glad you feel the strong need to share.

Bjerke's hand is on my butt! I think my dad had jackets like that, they were from the Johnny Carson collection.

Up watching the Olympics - and checking the dialogue here. So enjoyable and addicting.
Lori and Julie, I had made a nightstand in Portland woodshop too - finally got rid of it about 10 years ago. Still have a name plate. Another thing where Portland differed from Oak Grove: we 9th grade girls had a choice in PE(don't know if this was another Mod choice or what), learn the Fox Trot or how to give a massage. I realized which one Oak Grove learned when I was at my first Homecoming Dance at Kennedy and I didn't know the Fox Trot. :)
Adam K.L.- I must have been still talking in 9th grade when math class was supposed to start, Mr. Weiss threw an eraser at me - nice huh?
Betty P. - Flom was the best. She made me love Geography. Mr. Miller made me learn and actually like grammar. I had the art teacher's name and just lost it. She was blond, nice and came on Operation Adventure with us.
Shelly F. - e-mailed with Jenny Lerud not too long ago - she loves New York and is a writer/designer and single.
Did anyone keep in touch with Sean Ferrin? He went to Burnsville for 12th grade.

You guys, I am laughing soooo hard. Even those stories that I was not apart of from Portland. In some ways it "explains do much" about some of you... :) and matches up to our experiences we had at Oak Grove. This forum has become my daily dose of joy!!!! ( gosh it replaces any of those " for the soul" books hands down!)

Makes you wonder where some of those memories went, since they come flooding out with all that name dropping. Yes, Ms Tasa...what a spitter, didnt she have braces at a late age and that was her issue?
That class is where I first met you Wade, I am trying to remember if Pete was in that class too, maybe Ken Haglund....

Heck, maybe all these trips down memory lane will help all our brains fend off Alzheimers for a few more years!

Tracey, you're right about Mr Feig...looking back now, i recognize those signs....but he never bothered me, I was " shelly - belly" as my family use to call me for years. Probably most of my elementary years! Also, it is funny that the girls all seem to remember Mauro, not the boys.....remember our Blue - one piece gym outfits! We would pull them way down, and then try and overlap the top part and bottom by the elastic in the waist! We had to strtch the neck to get into them!?

Shelly did you happen to go to Pond Elementary for Kindergarden? Any body out there that went Pond, Riverside, Oak Grove then Kennedy? Just Curious how many of us were together for all 13 years.

Tracy Bruley, Hi, That was tuff news to hear about Mrs. Murrey. She had 3 out of 4 of us in my family. She was the best!

About those Mods at Portland. Was your whole day scheduled by Mods? Cuz it sounds like they were just extra activity type stuff. Our day was what 17 Mods total. Some Mods were 20 minutes. Some were 25 as I recall. Some classes were 2 Mods, some 3. Hour classes like Science & Social Studies were scheduled as 3 Mods. Is that the kind of Mods Portland had?

Marilyn L. Gould (VanOsdel) I sat in the row right next to you in math class with Mr Weiss(wasn't it 8th grade math?). He never really seemed happy. He was explaining something at the chalkboard and was not pleased that we (the class) were not "getting it" (I don't remember if you were talking) And before the eraser became a lethal projectile he was very upset and said something about a bunch of moron's, then tagged you good with the eraser. Anger management issues?

Wow, three pages of posts to catch up on since yesterday! Some of the other OG Singers (Maybe?): Connie Nelson, Al Greimel, Mike Gunderson, Pat Stratton - man, I'm making my brain hurt. Maybe Terry Andrada and Gerry Hokanson or else I'm mixing up my OG's with the JB's.

Didn't Mr Mooney used to do something with a huge treble-hooked fishing lure he would toss on his overhead projector? I remember the morning we took Miss Fatchett out to breakfast before school in Larry Nermoe's very loud car. Was it a GTO? She about split a gut when Larry sat down, bleary eyed, and said, "I think I'll do eggs."

I went to Pond for Kindergarten and 1st grade then moved and went to Valley View, Portland and then Kennedy.

Unfortunately I never went to kindergarten, just subbed at Oxboro Free church when one of my sisters were sick. Maybe they didnt offer it for "free" at Riverside back then.....I went straight into Ms Maxwell's class in 1st. I just had a brain flash back, maybe Leo Reuder was in my first grade class! My mom was a single parent, so money was really tough for us back then, actually for most of my years in school.... I was always wishing I could have been at the Valley View pool all summer, but we couldnt afford it; I had to work summmer jobs for the state of MN. ( day cares, Army recruiting center...that fun stuff, and lots of Babysitting! Then of course when I got into High School I worked at Mr Steak " summer time steak and clam bake!" and then Chi Chis as prep cook and line cook, around the cheerleading & scholastic schedule. (That is where I have some great stories with John Amato, he was one of the waiters with my sisters waiting and hostessing) Funny all those things we did back then! I guess that is why I wondered why I didnt got to all those concerts, well there you go!

Ah yes, the jobs in high school. My first was usher at the Valley West Theatre (now a Snyder's Drug Store I believe.) My favorite part was climbing the tall wobbly step ladder to change the marquee. I also worked at the Super Valu across the street from school bagging groceries. Someone once tipped me a whole dollar for carrying out her groceries. The most bonding work experience was McDonald's. What a crew we had. It was sure a bummer when I got fired for giving away food to fellow employees Andrada and Hokanson when they weren't working.

Wade,
Do you remember what a hard time you gave me when I was going to go out with Marty Vavrosky!? My mom was always trying to set me up with the older guys that were bus boys over at the Registry Hotel restaurant.....trying to get me "over" McArdle back then.....Those blind dates with guys older than me never worked!!! Although Marty seemed to be a nice guy and popular with the upper class, was at least a good wrestler wasnt he?

Thanks Wade for putting up with the slow dancing plans I always had for the 4 of us in the 'dark basement' !

I've got to quit reading this at work - I keep bursting out laughing.

Awe, Sue and Pete, what a cute couple. But Sue, let's just remember that Pete is my "Plan B", okay? I forgot that Patty Wittstruck and Mike McArdle went out - so used to her being with Steinmetz in school that it wiped out any other memory. Sorry Mike!

Sue do you remember when Vicki, you and I worked at Ponderosa? Remember Steve Pittman - I mean you should I believe that he thinks he dated all of us!

Just a reminder - Friday Night/Majors in Bloomington - anytime after 7:00 - cameras welcome!

I've got a Valley View elementary question. To this day, I'm still trying to figure why everytime someone (and by someone, I mean Dale Harazin, Tom Rekowski, Kent Hrbek and I think Brian Kuznia) had to fart - they always had to gather around Kent's desk, which was right behind my desk. I believe it started with something like - "Hey Kent, gotta cut"! Desk placement was key back then - I think I drew the short stick!

Oh Tom Rekowski my 1st boyfriend! Oh how I miss him! Betty of course you know what I remember from Valley View, the good old election. You and I running against each other for class president. The hats, the posters, the buttons. The better person won! Wasn't Mr. Malharek our phy ed teacher at Valley View?

Oh I remember Ponderosa well. Started as bun girl, worked up to order taker and the best job was cashier. Pittman thought he went out with all of us. That was my first job and then Poppin Fresh (Baker's square) HA! HA!

08/14/08 12:20 PM #215

Peter R. Bjerke

C'mon, I was a foot and a half taller than Tom Rekowski!
....and the guys that didn't vote for you?...were they laid out prone on the floor, gasping for air, after a run in with Lil' Miss Nutcracker?

Dorene J. DeLong (Bartz)

I lauged so hard reading this forum last night, that as soon as I took a break at work today, I had to go back on and see what new was posted.

I went to Pond for kindergarten because Valley View didn't have kindergarten back then. Then it was off to Valley View for 1st-6th, Portland, and Kennedy.

Portland mods were different. We had 2 or 3 regular classes in the morning, then 4 mods in the middle of the day that you signed up for every couple of weeks (1 of your mods was your lunch) then 2 or 3 regular classes at the end of the days. Most of the mod classes you had to choose from were things that normally weren't classes in school or that was when you could have a study hall. I don't remember anyone I knew using that time for studying. I remember playing jacks for one of my mod classes. I'm not sure what the purpose of it was but I know after we left Portland they stopped having them. I think most of used them just to run around and do nothing.

Julie M. Boeser (O'Hara)

HA HA HA Ya'll are just crazy (notice the southern accent!).

St. Bony's, then Pond, Portland, Kennedy.

Worked MANY MANY hours at McDonalds! I bet most of us from that old crew could still work circles around McD's crews of today!

Where is CR Hamilton?

I remember having to go over to Jayne K's or Jolene Danielson's house to borrow cloths from them before school so I wouldn't be seen in all my hand outs :)

Pete - what grade were you in when your family moved into the house on Garfield - which by the way, I still think had one of the coolest upstairs - and the only reason I know that is from when the Wolners lived there - I was never lucky enough to be in "Pete's Lair"!

Sue never had a chance during that election - I used "Mr. Smiley Face" buttons - how can you not vote for that? But Sue, I believe that you were probably the best Student Council secretary there ever was!

08/14/08 12:41 PM #219

Cindy L. Westlund (Kriesel)

Yes - reading this at work has GOT to stop!

Atonement Luth Church for K, Pond 1-6, OGJH and then Kennedy. Steve Town - I don't remember you from Pond, but from OG?

McDonalds and Southdale Dayton's were my HS jobs - we had some fun parties after closing McDonalds. Mark Chapman - I think I remember you working there . . . but fired? I don't remember that part. How will you ever fit that into a sermon?
