Hazlet - John W. Hanson, 59, of Hazlet, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ. John was born on April 24, 1961 in Kingston, N.Y. and grew up in Olivebridge, N.Y.

John moved to New Jersey and started his career at AT&T in December 1989 as a software developer. He joined the Optics division in 1998 as part of a cutting-edge high speed multi-wavelength optical transmission project at the time and continued to work for Lucent, then Alcatel-Lucent, and most recently with Nokia in software development and customer support roles. He was a tireless worker and completely dedicated to the company's customers. Many of his current colleagues have been with him since he joined the optics team and continued to work with John until his passing.

Although this is a sad time for John's family, for those who know John, and the rest of his Nokia family, he leaves us with a sense of accomplishment. He was put on this earth to help people work through problems. He did that during his working career with rich enthusiasm, focused attention to detail, and with creative problem solving. He applied those skills to problems and issues we face locally and in the world. He had a good sense of humor and earned the nickname "Fish" which stayed with him for many years. There has been an outpouring of admiration upon the news of his passing, and he will be missed by friends and colleagues, whom he regarded as his family, along with his loving sister, Marilyn.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Doris Jane (Merritt) Hanson on 12/27/07 and Zuar Erastus Hanson on 6/9/87. John is survived by his dear sister, Marilyn J. Hanson, along with many cherished friends. John will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Hwy/Rt 35 N., Hazlet, NJ 07730.
