My dad and I still think about Linda. He was an ambulance driver on her call. He came home and had to make sure I was okay. He quit after that, it was too heartbreaking. I always wondered what happened to Mr. Burgin. She was a shy, nice girl, who had an unfortunate accident. And I will never forget her.

I left 31 years ago but still always wondered what happened to Linda, so thanks. Before I left I heard a rummor that she died but I hoped it was wrong all these years.

I was friends with Linda when we were in Grade School. She was a beautiful little gril with big blue eyes and golden locks, every parents dream. She was a proper little girl, and I was a tom boy, but she liked me anyway, we had fun. She had a great laugh. She would laugh when I tried to be funny. I remember playing Barbies with her in her pea green and pink bedroom. It was obvious her parents loved her very much. Dave Shultis and her were sweet on each other and they let me be a happy third wheel.

The last time I saw her I went to the State fair with her and her family. At the fair I saw the Golden Knights (Army Sky Diving Team) land right in front of us. I was awed. I never forgot, and as an adult I picked up the hobby of skydiving and even ended up jumping with the golden Knights from time to time since they are based here in NC. The knights always brought back that memory with her. She was already super thin on that trip. She was anorexic, did not have a name or understanding of the disease back then, instead it seamed like the town went into a respectful silence concerning the situation.

I asked her father once in 7th grade if she would be coming back to school anytime soon. I don't remember his answer, he was kind, but I knew not to ask anymore. I always saw so much pain in his eyes. I can't imagine what he went through, as a parent, I do not think there is anything more painful than losing a child.

It is nice to see she is being remembered.

Thanks,
Diana Rupp (Oudshoorn)

strange how I keep forgetting to check this bulletin board. I think it was the fall of 8th grade that she died. Not sure, as I remember that night, and going to school to see Mr. Burgin, but can't really remember the year.

Actually, must have been  spring 1976, because we were already in glenford, and it was his first year on the ambulance  squad.
