If any of you have anymore info on Dan that would be appreciate. I have heard that he was killed between 2001-2003 and he was most likely living in Florida at the time.
I remember growing up playing football and wrestling with Dan. Often during practice his dad would come and stand on the other side of the fence and yell for Dan. I think that it was our junior year when his dad passed away. I remember it being pretty hard on Dan. He just kinda slipped away.
About 10 years later I ran into Dan in less than perfect circumstances. I was working and he was in trouble. Even though we were on different sides we spent our time together catching up. He was still a big goofy guy with a crooked but warm smile.
Danny, Mark Twain once said that, "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." I hope that the same is true here.
If you are gone, I wish you knew that I was smiling when I remembered you and when I wrote this.
I remember working at McDonalds with Dan & going over to his house a couple times. He always seemed to be struggling with something deep inside, but of course at that age I had no idea how to approach him or what to do. That makes me sad to hear of his passing because in his heart there was alot of good in him. He was so funny sometimes. He could make an average day at school funny & interesting just "being Danny Collins". I'm sure other's were closer to him than me but when we lose someone from our class it seems that we lose just a tiny bit of ourselves. We've all been a part of each others lives to varying degrees for 20 years +, so when a classmate is gone, it affects us all. Dan will be missed for sure! - Brad
