Olynnda L Parmer

Olynnda Parmer, age 75, of Boulder City, passed away peacefully January 29, 2015 at her home, after a short battle with cancer. Olynnda was born April 17, 1939. Boulder City was Olynnda’s home! She was born here and died here. She was a member of Girls’ State and Girls’ Nation while in high school and graduated in 1957. She graduated from Life Bible College in 1960. Olynnda’s life was focused on her love for Jesus Christ. Her spiritual gifts manifested in several ways; for a short period of time Olynnda and Chuck were missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators, and her life centered around her unyielding desire to serve others. Teaching Sunday school, working in the nursery, hosting of bible studies, membership in Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) and the filling of shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Throughout the struggles that life brings, she would always put forth “we have so much to be thankful for, and I am so blessed”.
She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Oleta Franklin of Eldorenda, GA, husband Charles Long, and son Mahlon Long of Enumclaw, WA. She is survived by her son, Kevin Long and wife Mary of Amarillo, Texas; sister Theda Cox and husband George of Boulder City; five grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 5, from 6:00 - 7:30pm at Bethany Baptist Church, and Memorial Services Friday, February 6, at 10:00am at Bethany Baptist Church, 210 Wyoming St, Boulder City.

Lavonne Oppliger (Ritter) (1957)
Olynnda was a dear and precious friend to all of us. The kindest and most compassionate person, she already has stars in her Heavenly Crown, the Heaven she in which she so strongly believed, all of her life. Her passing is such a loss. But Olynnda leaves us all with so many memories of the life she lived, the gifts she gave and the friend that everyone could count on to be there. We mourn her her loss; we celebrate her life and the privilege of knowing her. My regrets are not to have made more effort to spend time with her in recent years. I will miss my friend of so many years. She was such a caring, giving person she will be missed by many.
Ralph (Mac) Magee (1957)
No question that I was very sad hearing Olynnda had passed, I doubt I was alone. In fact, I had not known she was terminally ill. Had I known, I woukd have driven down to BC early on, to spend time with her, talking of things in common like The Pebbles.
The most long-lasting impression I will have of her will be that she practiced Christianity, which seems hard to come across these days.
One other thing..for her, there seemed not to be a stranger. That I noticed, someone she didn't know, had never met, was greeted and treated, as if she'd akways known that person!
She was authentic, genuine and without false or pretended reactions.
Her dedication and work in keeping our class connected was nit dissimilar ti the hub on a wagon wheel.
Cornelia Bates (Madsen) (1957)
Olynnda was interested in everyone; we noticed that throughout our school years. When reunions were held we always looked forward to being with her, because she wanted to know how we were doing. She even came to our last reunion to visit with every bit of energy she could find in herself with her cancer situation.
She was a leader, because she was a great example of caring for everyone. At Nevada Girls State we were thrilled that her qualities were so obvious on even short acquaintance. How lucky we were to have her in our BCHS class of "57"
Patricia Richardson (Hickey) (1957)
Olynnda never forgot my birthday. All these years she sent me a special card and even a more special note. I spent time with her over the years. She was such a compassionate person. She always put you first. No one ever felt left out when they were spending time with her. When Tom had cancer she called me many times. Such a special friend. I will miss our calls and cards. You will be missed my friend.
