So sorry to hear about Don this morning (082819) - we were such good friends throughout the school years - elementary through the end of our high school graduation in 1955. Since our class was small (48 in our graduation class) we all spent a lot of time together. And a lot of that time was spent at their house which was just below the hospital in Boulder City. I can remember when I had told Don (and others in our class) when we were in the either 7th or 8th grade that I wanted to become a pilot. He told his older brother Jim who at the time was attending the US Naval Academy that I wanted to be a pilot, and Jim got me aside and said that the best pilots were Navy pilots and I should consider that. So I made up my mind early on to seek that avenue out and so thanks to Don I got accepted into the Naval Academy and went on to become a Navy pilot. Don brings back so many great memories from our school years. So many many fond recollections - I am sorry I didn't get to see Don more often during our retirement years. He was a great guy. My prayers & thughts to Don's family
I was very sorry to hear of Phillip's passing. I lost track of him after graduation and it wasn't til years later that I learned of his acclaim as a Nevada historian, what a surprise, for me anyway. Since then I've learned of the huge contribution he's made to the Nevada story, his efforts will live on forever !
All kids have a 'best friend' and Jerry was certainly mine. From the 4th grade through college years we spent a lot of time together, rode our bikes all over the desert, fished at the lake and with his family on the Colorado River down at Nelson, played sports together through high school. We served as president and vice president of the student body as seniors, the most memorable duty as such was putting the flag up every morning and pulling out the bleachers for assemblies ! And yeah, we drank a lot of beer together college summers. Many, many great memories, I'll miss him ! Don Welsh
Eva Jane was a good friend and always a major contributor to our classes' activities, we'll miss her. Don
