Roy and I flew model airplanes together as young friends in BC. In 1968 I was standing in line at the movie theater  at Tan Sun Nuit (sp) AFB in Saigon. Right in front of me was Roy! Amazing! He was there as a crew chief in a Spooky c-47 and was there as a Warrant Officer helicopter pilot. It was great to catch up with him. Isn't war strange?

It seem strange posting a comment after all this time but that when we should remember most.

Roy and I went thru Boy Scouts together and High School.  After Graduation he went on to Cal-Poly SLO and I was at Pasadena City College.  We contacted before he went in the Air Force but then lost touch.

Sometime either '68 or '69 I found out he was going to Air Craft school in El Segundo, Ca while I was married with 2 kids in Arcadia, Ca.  I invited him up for the night and we went to the beach the next day.  I noticed a profound change but said nothing and lost contact after he left to go home.

He went home to B.C after his Dad's passing and never came back.

God Bless you Roy and thank you for your service.

Michael Davis

I am way overdue on commenting about my good friend Roy Legler.  We had some great times together, especially working on our Fords.  He had a hemi engine in his Ford and I had a Cadillac motor in my '54 Ford.  We worked together to prepare my car for a Las Vegas car show where the blue Ford placed 3rd in the semi custom category.  Pretty proud of that.  Roy was a high-principled human being.  Smart, trustworthy and a serious but fun dude.  I saw him briefly in our freshman year of college.  I was rooming with Wally, Dickie and Sandy in Fullerton California.  Wally and I transfered to BYU and I lost touch with Roy.  After graduation I was working as an engineer at McDonnel Douglas in Long Beach when I got the call that Roy took his own life.  What grief and inexplanable sorrow.  I went to his funeral which was also painful especially watching his girlfriend (don't remember her name) showing great torment.  I'm not in a hurry, but do look forward to reunite with my buddy in the life hereafter; which I believe is a reality.
