Robert Spendlove Gibson was born in Boulder City, Nevada, on Feb. 1, 1947, to Mads and Mary Gibson.

 

Robert lived in Nevada until he graduated high school in 1965. After graduation, he moved to Salt Lake City and attended trade school. He then moved to Southern California where he took a job with Southern California Edison (SCE), until he was drafted into the Army and served from 1966-68. He served his country for approximately 18 months in Vietnam and came back to California resuming his employment with SCE. Shortly after, he was transferred to a Nevadasubstation where he remained with SCE for nearly 40 years before retiring in 2006.

He met and married Renon Gibson and her two children, Bill and Shelby in December 1978. In 2011 Robert and Renon moved to St. George, Utah where Robert and resided until the time of his death on Oct. 1, 2023. He remained a devoted husband, father and grandfather throughout his life. He was loved and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife Renon Gibson; daughter Shelby Lynn Thorn (Mike Budyn); brother George Gibson (Sue Gibson and many nieces and nephews); four granddaughters; four grandsons; and four great-grandchildren (with two on the way.) He is preceded in death by his parents Mads and Mary Gibson; son William J. Tackett; and brother Galen Gibson.

A visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 6, from 5-7 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, located at 288 West St George Blvd., St George Utah.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m., with a visitation prior from 1:30-2:30 p.m., at the Winchester Hills 1st Ward Chapel, 5338 North Winchester Hills Drive, St. George.

Mary Quinn (Peterson) (1965)

I'm so sorry to hear about Robert's death. He was in some of my classes and he was always so nice to me and everyone.Have strength and remember he will always be with you and you will be togther again.

Sorry to hear of Roberts passing! He was such an awesome person!!
