Another tragic incident:

"In Loving Memory of Christopher J. Eborn
May he rest in peace."

"Some word's from my father:" (written by Chris's neice)

"Yesterday morning, my little brother Chris died during a triathlon event in St. George, Utah. He was 34. It seems he had a blood clot, or a cardiac event just after the swim and although the medical team worked on him for over an hour, they were unable to start his heart again. The Doctors believe that it would have happened anyway, sooner or later, so at least we are left with the knowledge that it was painless, and happened after he had accomplished a goal doing something he loved. For those interested, the funeral will most likely be at Lundquist mortuary in Bountiful, later this week. We will miss him terribly. He was an amazing man, full of integrity. His sweet family is a result of his love and his undying faith. He and Michelle have 4 children, plus one due to be born in September. They will need all the love and care we can offer during this difficult time."

Man Dies in Tri-athlon
May 17th, 2006
Alex Cabrero Reporting

There are stories we report on every now and then that remind us how precious life is. This is one of them. It's the story of one man who died way too early and how his family is left moving on without him.

Chris Eborn was a strong, healthy 34-year old man. This past weekend, with his wife watching, he competed in a triathlon, trying to make it to that difficult finish line, when life's finish line got to him first.

John Eborn: "This my favorite picture of the family."

They're the kind of pictures scrapbooks were invented for.

John Eborn: "He always had his kids on his shoulders."

John Eborn has been through the snapshots a thousand times in the past few days, looking for the one that best describes his younger brother Chris. He realized you couldn't, even if you had a million to choose from.

John Eborn: "He wasn't just a great man and a great brother, he was my best friend. And he was also an unbelievable dad and an unbelievable husband."

That's what makes one picture so tough for John to look at. It's Chris, just before the swimming portion of his triathlon this past weekend at Sand Hollow reservoir near St. George.

John Eborn: "He's walking into the water, waving goodbye to his wife."

There was no way either of them could ever know it would be their last goodbye.

John Eborn: "We think it was a blood clot or a massive cardiac event, or something like that."

Now, his wife Michelle is left with their four children, pregnant with their fifth. They themselves were born in the same Bountiful hospital, to the same doctor, just 16 hours apart.

John Eborn: "We kid because we say their first date was in the nursery, on July 7, 1971."

They were together from the start, and now John just wants to make sure his brother's family is taken care of until they're all together again.

John Eborn: "We can never bring Chris back and I can never have another conversation with my little brother, but we can make sure they're taken care of."

Chris Eborn's funeral is in Kaysville this Saturday. His brother would like to make next year's triathlon an event in Chris's memory.

Although I didn't see Chris much since we hung out in different circles, he was always nice to me. Very cordial, conversational, and easy to get along with. Rest in peace Chris.

In junior high, Chris and I hopped on my 4-wheeler a few times and went camping behind Bountiful Peak. I go back there often and am always reminded of the night we heard strange noises in our camp, outside our tent. We were SURE it was a bear. We finally got the courage to unzip the tent door to find that it was actually a horse, not a bear, that had graced us with it's presence. We laughed all night about the horse we thought was poised to slash through the tent and eat us alive!

Chris was indeed a great man, and I'm glad I had the pleasure of knowing him while he was here.

Dusty's comment reminded me of some good junior high times with Chris as well....

Chris used to ride his red 3-wheeler over to my house, pick me up and we would ride around for hours in the vacant field at the bottom of my street. This field was full of stuff dumped randomly by construction people and included pieces of cement, barbed wire, extra dirt, boards with rusty nails, and all sorts of scary odds and ends! Looking back now (and as a mom), I wonder how we survived without getting really hurt! I will always remember Chris laughing as I was hanging on for dear life!!!

During high school we didn't hang out as much, but Chris was always there with a hug, some compliment or just to tease me.

I too am blessed to have Chris as one of my friends - he is greatly missed

I've avoided posting anything on here until now because quite frankly, it makes me cry. I met Chris in the 9th grade and thought it was pretty cool to get to know some guys from Millcreek Jr. High. Little did I know that he would become one of my dearest friends throughout High School. Chris had a way of making you feel special. He was a fantastic listener and an even better friend. One of my best memories of Chris was actually at our 5 year high school reunion when I found out that he was going to marry my childhood friend - Michelle Livingston. I remember thinking they were the perfect match for one another. I'm especially grateful for the times Mike & I got to hang out with Chris and Michelle after we moved back to Utah. It was fun watching how they adored one another, and then watching our children play together. I miss you Chris. Your example still shines on mine & Mike's lives. Thank you!
