One word that comes to my mind when I think of what Utah means to me is HOME! I love it here, I love raising my children here and this is where I will stay!

Thank you for posting the historical videos on this site. Watching this video of Tiananmen Square had quite an impact.

It is incredible, how much has transpired in these last years...practically an entire lifetime.

When you go traveling what do you like to see in a hotel? depends on where you go...but universally I would say a toilet that flushes!

03/04/09 07:22 PM #9

Ann Kleinschmidt (Johnson)

Okay, well the Toilet is a given in pretty much any hotel here the United States however, when you do go out of the country then it is a little different in the third world countries. Thank you......

However, the one event that will probably made an influence in my last couple weeks has been a fortune when my husband and I ordered Chinese food one night for dinner and I thought that I would share it due to the fact that our 20 year is coming up.....

The fortune was:

FRIENDS LONG ABSENT ARE COMING BACK TO YOU

I would have to agree............

Ann,

Not sure what tools you are using for this site, but if possible and not too time consuming to enable, it would be nice to be able to link profiles. I justify the enhancement because there are a lot of "In the Class of 89'" marriages. Linking to a spouses profile would be an excellent feature. (or maybe it is there and I have missed it)

Oh by the way, I pulled out an old VHS of the VHS Jazz Ensemble (no pun intended) and there you and I are playing Tenor and Alto Sax side by side, an old composition by Jazz composer Andy Razzatt.

Ann Kleinschmidt (Johnson)

Okay James, I wish that we could link for marriages but this site does not work that way, I wish that we could though.

And if you put the video on the web some how, then you and I will have words to say, Like what fun we had in Jazz Band and Marching Band. No wonder I have back problems now, with having to lug that big baritone Sax around from Utah County to Cache County. HAHA LOL

OK, I have a question that I have been wondering about you '89ers:
Did you decide to stay in Utah or move out of state? Why? I'm curious because I think there are a lot of people who stayed pretty close to Bountiful.
When I lived out of state I just missed the familiarity of things as mundane as the mountains, watching the sun setting over Antelope Island every day, sunshine even in cold wintertime, four seasons, stuff like that. Plus I missed my extended family very much; luckily we are close. That's why I came back to Davis County.

Good question and I will be the first to answer that. I know that when I got married my husband and I were looking at moving up to Alaska due to a job for him and the job fell threw and then we were going to move to Iowa and that fell threw as well. Brother in law never stayed in one place for more than 2 years. However, with me, the only family that I have is here.... Utah and Washington state but it's fun to see old friends and make new friends as well.

To answer Jennifer Elkington's question. As many of you know, I married a former Viewmont Viking as well. Jed has received some job offers with other professional athletic teams, but our lives are here. Our parents are still here and we live just a few blocks away from both sets of parents. Our neighborhood is great. It has a lot of older people and honestly, we have 80 year old Jazz fans that watch the games just to see if they can see my husband. They all watch out for my girls. The schools are great! We are just a few hours from the snow, or the sun. But, for us, it is all about family! They say that home is where you hang your heart, and our heart is in Bountiful.

Hey Ann, Is there a way to reverse the order of the messages so it goes from the most recent to the oldest? It would be easier to follow the new messages that way. Just an idea. Jen

Has anyone come close to using their 8000 character limit when listing their children? Just wondering.

04/28/09 12:46 AM #17

Mary Troop (Neilson)

I don't think that anyone but Mike Wersland could even come close to the 8,000 character limit. It might be fun to venture~ Sounds like a challenge!!!

Jennifer Elkington (Hughes)

I could easily have used up the 8000 word limit on my children, but I didn't want to embarrass the rest of you.

From an e-mail that I got from a friend:

"My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.

My wife asked, 'Do you know her?'

'Yeah,' I sighed, 'she's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.'

'Wow!' says my wife, 'Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?'

And then the fight started..... "

Sing; sing a song

Do you remember the Viewmont fight song?

Or the alumni song?

Both are here: VHS constitution

I didn't even know we had a constitution!

Mary Troop (Neilson)

Who can forget the school song? I remember it was the first test we had in our Sophomore English Class! The sad thing is that I think we only sang the Alma Mater twice, once to practice for graduation and then graduation. I personally knew about the School Constitution as I was in Mr Hadlock's English class and he advised me that he would give me extra credit if I would type the Constitution on his computer, as the discs that the constitution were on prior were STOLEN!!! So, there is at least one person in the school that knows more about the constitution than I do because they probably saved it for a keepsake!

Funny comic link, Shane! Actually, I DO remember the alumni song because we had to memorize it in Madrigals--I believe we sang it at graduation. My graduation pictures were taken from the VERY BACK of Symphony Hall, and if you squint hard you can see a pinprick of a head that belonged to me, sitting with a smallish group on risers. I don't know; all I remember is having to memorize it and wondering when I would ever use that information again. Now look, it's coming in handy.

05/12/09 01:45 PM #23

Ann Kleinschmidt (Johnson)

However what I do remember at Graduation was someone walking across the stage at the last part where the students would walk on and someone's water broke!!!! Do we remember who that was!! That was the only show stopper for me that I could remember from Graduation Day. But other than that high school was a blur.......

Different topic--I just saw the new links and wanted to say THANKS to Cliff, William, and Arlyn for sponsoring a family picnic in Bountiful! That is a classy idea. Very nice. Now no one has an excuse to not come because of $.
FYI-My husband's reunion was at Snowbird last year and the food was fabulous. Snowbird did a great job putting on a really nice event. So hopefully people can come to both events!
