Kirk Hewit was a memorable person - fairly quiet, but also strong, athletic, confident, and really a nice person. My first contact with Kirk was in Mrs. Fletcher's morning Kindergarten at Longfellow school for a brief initial sojorn into the Bozeman School system. He then dissappeared (to Livingston I believe) for quite a few years before emerging again in Bozeman schools again in Junior High or High School. I remembered him as the blond kid in Kindergarten who got frequent bloody noses, but there was obviously a lot more to him than that.
After high school, he worked at and eventually took over the family business (I think?) Silent Knight Muffler shop in a classic building on East Main Street. He eventually moved his business to North Ida Avenue in Northeast Bozeman. I enjoyed doing business with him - he was always professional, capable and honest. I was saddened when I heard he was killed in an avalanche while snow mobiling.
