Honolulu, Hawaii - James Calvin Kidder passed away November 5, 2022, at his home, in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the age of 79. He was born in Brewer, Maine, June 25, 1943, the son of Herbert Sylvester and Madeleine Charlotte (Dore) Kidder.
Jim grew up in Brewer and graduated from Brewer High School, class of 1961. He started his banking career at Eastern Trust and Banking Company, in Bangor, Maine. He worked more than thirty years in the banking profession, and became vice president and deputy controller of The Merrill Trust Company, in Bangor, Maine, and worked at the bank's Bangor, Lewiston, and Portland offices. Jim worked for four years at the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad in the accounting department, where he met his best friend of forty-four years, Edward "Paul" Foster. He worked for eight years as the administrative manager of Baker|Newman|Noyes CPA's, in Portland, Maine, and moved to Hawaii in May 2003.
Jim realized another dream of his, at that time, by returning to his beloved Hawaii, introduced in 1968, on a two-week tour, and he and Paul moved to Hawaii, for a year, in 1969-1970. Jim worked at the Bank of Hawaii, Waikiki Branch, and he visited many times in the upcoming years. He took a bold step and moved to Hawaii, alone and without a job, but within a few weeks he became the controller of New Horizons Computer Learning Center, aka Hawaii Computer Training & Solutions, in Honolulu, and after ten years, retiring on September 30, 2013, shortly after turning seventy years old.
Jim was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Robert Kidder. He is survived by two brothers, Ronald of Brewer, Maine, and Richard of Burnsville, North Carolina; and two nephews, Donald Johnson-Kidder of Ladera Ranch, California, and John Kidder of Bangor, Maine. Jim was also predeceased by his best friend of forty-four years, Edward "Paul" Foster of Auburn, Maine, on August 13, 2009.
At Jim's request, there will be no memorial service in Hawaii or Maine, and half of his ashes will be scattered near Paul's in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the other half will be buried, with his parents, in Oak Hill Cemetery, Brewer, Maine.
