WINTERPORT - Bradley Allen Libby, 54, passed away peacefully Aug. 8, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital, after a long-term illness. Bradley was born April 1, 1953, in Bangor, the son of Richard and Geraldine (Theriault) Libby. Brad grew up on a farm in Brooks where he had many cherished childhood memories before moving to Winterport in 1968, where he resided until his death. He was a graduate of Brewer High school, Class of 1971, as well as a graduate of Bel and Howell School of Electronics in New Jersey. Brad had several jobs throughout the years; he worked for SAD 22 as a bus driver, Country Kitchen Bakery as a delivery driver, as a Channel 7 camera operator, and for Kimsco Equipment and Supply, but none of these surpassed his love for fire fighting and medical rescue. Brad was a dedicated fire fighter for more than 20 years with the Winterport Volunteer Fire Department and held the assistant fire chief's position for several of those years, as well as a founding member of the Winterport Volunteer Ambulance. He was certified and licensed in several fire fighting, medical rescue, and dispatching degrees. Brad was most proud of his dispatching career with Old Town EMS, which he held for 11 years, during which time he made several dear friends. Prior to Brad's illness he was training with Waldo County Dispatch. Brad was an avid model railroad collector and shared this hobby with his uncle, Jimmy Mulcahey and several of his other life long friends. He owned and enjoyed exhibiting Pen-Bay Decal, which made decals for model railroad collectors at several conventions. He enjoyed photography, the outdoors, fishing and yard work. Brad was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a member of the Eastern Maine Model Railroad Club Inc., as well as a life long Eagle Scout. Brad had a great sarcastic sense of humor and for those who knew him well, loved that aspect of him. He was a very loving, gentle, big hearted brother and friend who will be missed tremendously. Brad is survived by his two sisters, Lori and Kim Libby, both of Bangor; his brother, Steven and wife, Carrie Libby and their two sons, Daniel and Nicholas, all of Winterport; and his brother, Richard Libby of Winterport; aunts and uncles, Sharon Wilbur of Winterport, Beverly Stubbs of Monroe, Shirley and James Mulcahey of Brooks, Phillip Sherwood of Orono, and Irving Rainey of Prospect, as well as many cousins. The family thanks all of the following for their support of Brad not only in his final days, but also throughout his life, the Winterport Volunteer Fire Department and Winterport Volunteer Ambulance Service; Old Town Police, Fire, and EMS; Dr. Smith and his staff; many nurses and doctors at Eastern Maine Medical Center, especially the entire intensive care unit staff for their care and compassion; Erica, Cheryl, and Linda; Dr. Elsner, Dr. Westhoven; and Dr. Frey, for their compassion not only for Brad, but his family as well. Thank you also to the many friends and family who took the time to go and visit Brad in intensive care unit during his final days. At Brad's request there will be no services at this time, however in the near future there will be a celebration of his life, which will be announced at a later date.
