Joseph Stewart - Class Of 1971

BUCKSPORT - Joseph M. Stewart, 54, died unexpectedly June 29, 2007, at his home. He was born April 22, 1953, in Bangor, the son of Edgar R. and Rose M. (LeGasse) Stewart. He graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1971. After high school Joe worked with his father and uncle building houses until 1974. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1974 and made the Air Force his career, retiring in 1995. While an active serviceman, Joe and his family traveled to many parts of the world and after 21 years he decided that he was content to return to Maine and settle in Bucksport. After his retirement, Joe attended Husson College, worked at Cap Morrill's Seafood, Brewer, did some carpentry work for others and built his own home on the William's Pond Road, Bucksport. Joe had a generous and kind heart, which he displayed to family and friends. He was also an avid golfer, enjoyed collecting eagles and was very proud of his country, and served it well. His great love was his family and they loved him very dearly. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joan H. (Stubbs) Stewart of Bucksport; one daughter, Melissa (Stewart) Mixer and her husband, William; two grandsons, Dylon and William II, all of Carmel; his father and mother, Edgar and Rose Stewart of Bucksport; one sister, Lynn Bowden and husband, Steve, of Bucksport; three brothers, Richard Stewart of Bucksport, Ronald Stewart and his wife, Robin, of Orrington and Charles Stewart of Glenburn; his mother-in-law, Joan A. Bridges of Bucksport; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nep-hews. He will also be missed by his two canine friends, Lucy and Lacy. He was predeceased by his daughter, Corrine M. Stewart, June 9, 2005. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Carl Schreiber officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Bucksport.
