
Portland - Cody A. Sherman Sr., 67, of Portland, passed peacefully on October 17, 2017, with his family by his side after a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was born in Bangor on May 17, 1950, to Owen and Alice (Adams) Sherman. Upon graduating from Brewer High School in 1968, Cody enlisted in the Maine Air National Guard and was discharged in 1974.
Cody always had a great sense of humor and inspired his family with strength, courage and laughter. He had a great love and appreciation for music and he was a well-known and respected musician throughout Maine. He played drums in his own bands, as well as with others, his entire life. In recent years, Cody played as a duo with a close friend in Southern Maine. He was passionate about old cars and had many throughout the years. He loved animals of all kinds and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He walked daily and loved to hike with his family.
For many years Cody worked in the oil industry, then moved into telecommunications and lastly was employed with IDEXX Laboratories, Westbrook and retired in 2012.
Cody was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, and former wife, Jackie Sherman (Rogan). He is survived by his companion of 19 years, Faye Fredericks of Portland; two brothers, Owen (Rocky) Sherman of North Carolina, Randy Sherman and wife, Judy of Holden; son, Cody Sherman Jr. of Holden; daughter, Kelley Sherman and husband, Jeff Marryatt and their boys Jack, Owen and Nathan of Holden; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved family pets.
Family and friends wishing to honor Cody's memory are invited to attend a celebration of his life at Jeff's Catering in Brewer on October 29 from 2-4 p.m.
