Charlie Gibbs - Class Of 1970

Alton - Charles "Charlie" George Gibbs, 68, died peacefully at home on August 31, 2018. Charlie was born July 9, 1950, in Bangor, the son of Lenora (Bowers) Gibbs and Richard Robert Gibbs.
Charlie was a graduate of Brewer High School, class of 1970. Shortly after graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge from the military, Charlie worked for the Old Town Fire Dept. for a few years before returning to his professional career of painting and drywall work. Charles married his life partner, Deborah (Fraser), in July of 1985. He was employed by facilities management at the University of Maine, for several years before retiring in 2015.
Charlie will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his unconditional love of family and friends, his generosity to those less fortunate and his deep caring, thoughtful spirit. Charlie was a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed fishing, camping and most of all barbecuing the best food, which he was truly a master of.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Deborah Gibbs; son, Steven Gibbs of Old Orchard Beach; grandson, Dante Crenshaw of Alton; sister, Teresa Wells and husband, Rodney, of Winterport; sister, Pamela Underhill of Glenburn; brother, Garvin Gibbs of North Carolina; mother-in-law, Juanita Fraser of Bradley; sisters-in-law, Kathy Bulley of Alton and Sharon Gibbs of Brewer; brothers-in-law, Ronald Fraser Jr. of Alton and Keith Greenlaw of Winterport; several nieces and nephews; special friends, John Ivan, Dana Snowman, and Stan Levitsky. He was predeceased by his daughter, Erica Lynn (Gibbs) Crenshaw; parents, Lenora and Richard Gibbs; father-in-law, Ronald Fraser Sr.; sisters, Evelyn LeBreton and Robin Greenlaw; brothers, James Gibbs and Richard Gibbs; sister-in-law, Adelaida Fraser; brothers-in-law, Mark White and Neal Bulley; and niece, Heather Marie White.
