Bangor - Patrick F. Lucey, 69, died peacefully on June 11 at his home in Bangor. Born October 24, 1951 in Gardiner, ME, Patrick was the second of four boys.
His parents, Philip and Mary Ellis (Kilburn), worked in the school system and moved the family to Ellsworth, Eddington, and then on to Brewer, where Patrick graduated high school. Patrick enjoyed playing football at Brewer and never tired of telling stories about being on the 1968 state championship team. Patrick initially attended UM Machias, where his parents had met, before traveling and residing in many locations around the U.S. He spent time in the Florida Keys, Denver, Tucson, and Bellingham, Washington, before settling back on the Maine coast where he began working as a boat builder for The Hinckley Company in Southwest Harbor. After having two kids and relocating to North Haven, to build boats there, Patrick moved the family to Mapleton where he could finish his bachelor's degree at UMPI. Patrick excelled in the political science program and made the dean's list every semester while raising two young children and building houses full time. His passion for politics had been reignited and never waned, even after losing a bid for State Representative in a landslide to an incumbent republican in a decidedly "red" district. After his foray into politics, Patrick moved the family back down to Southwest Harbor in 1992, where he rejoined Hinckley as the supervisor of the Paint and Varnish department, a roll he would fill until 2008. Taking a break from boat building, Patrick worked as an education technician for the next couple years in Fort Kent, where he helped a special needs student navigate elementary school. It was always important to him to lend a hand to someone less fortunate.
He was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Mary Ellis; and his brothers, Michael and Philip. He is survived by his brother, Matthew of Portland; daughter Michaella Willis and her husband, Tim, and their daughter, Madison of Cheyenne, WY; and son, Sean Lucey and his wife, Leah, of Bar Harbor, ME.
Patrick was laid to rest beside his grandparents at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Bangor surrounded by close friends and family.
