Clinton Strout - Class Of 1970

BREWER and CALIFORNIA - BREWER and CALIFORNIA - Clinton Fremont Strout, 59, deeply devoted husband and father of four, passed away peacefully Oct. 4, 2011, surrounded by the family he loved after a short, but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Clint was born in 1952, grew up in Brewer and earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree from Maine Maritime Academy, proudly serving as a merchant marine. With perfect attendance, Clint devoted 24 years to Arco Marine, Inc., where he sailed as chief engineer on the Arco Fairbanks. After retiring in 1998, he remained active in the maritime industry by working for Nalfleet Marine Chemicals and by becoming a member of the Society of Port Engineers Los Angeles - Long Beach Harbors. Dedicated to serving others, Clint volunteered his time on the S.S. Lane Victory, a nationally recognized historic landmark and memorial to the sacrifices of all merchant marine sailors and Navy armed guardsmen. In the last year of his life, Clint enthusiastically spent his Thursday mornings at the Murrieta Police Department as a volunteer. Clint will always be remembered for his love for his family, dedication to friends, and his enthusiasm for living. Clint leaves behind his loving wife, Susan; sons, Kevin Strout of Camarillo, Calif., and Tyler Safran of Moraga, Calif.; daughters, Alyssa Safran of San Diego and Rachel Safran of Los Angeles; his father, Reginald Strout of Bowdoinham and Brewer; and sisters, Diana Mosher and her husband, Dale, of Bowdoinham and Pamela Grundvig and her husband, Daniel, of Utah. Clint's family expresses their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from all of those men and women in the maritime family with whom he so proudly served, and the Murrieta Police Department.
