Winter Haven, FL - Catherine "Cathy" Marston Smith of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on May 22, 2024, at the age of 74. She was born on June 15, 1949, in Portland, Maine, to Jane (Fahey) Marston and Edward Marston.
Cathy grew up in Brewer, Maine, and she graduated from Brewer High School, class of 1967 where she made many lifetime friends. She remembered every friend that she had for her entire life. Right from her first best friend that she had (Patty Robins Lobley) when she was 7 years old.
After high school, Cathy attended and graduated from Gorham State Teacher's College, today the University of Southern Maine, Gorham Campus. From college she went to work as an elementary teacher in the South Portland school system. Then she went to work for Unum Life Insurance Company where she worked until she retired in 2011. Right after she retired, Cathy moved to Winter Haven, Florida, where she went to work part-time at Legoland until 2020.
Cathy is survived by her son, Tom Smith and wife, Cari; and stepdaughter, Chrissie (Smith) Horton, whom she loved as her own daughter and husband, Tom; grandchildren, Sophie, Eddie and Bella Smith, and Zoe and Emma Horton. She is also survived by a brother, Rick Marston and wife, Jill.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Glades of Champions Gate, FL, and the staff at Good Shepard Hospice in Auburndale, FL, for the care and compassion they showed Cathy in her final days.
